Bahrain gossip
Posted 41 minutes ago

One notable anomaly in the Bahrain pit lane on Wednesday was that HRT's garage doors remained uniquely closed. The situation coincided with rumours that Bruno Senna and Karun Chandhok's cars had yet to arrive at the Sakhir circuit.

"We only knew we were going to Bahrain on Saturday when the car was loaded with half an hour to spare," Senna admitted to reporters. He said the schedule for Friday's 180 hours of free practice is essentially a shakedown for the two cars, with set-up work to not take place until the day of qualifying.

Also noticed in pit-lane was that Ferrari has revived what it describes as a "more sophisticated and safer" pit-stop traffic light system for 2010.

1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve was hoping to have been racing this weekend with Stefan GP, but instead he will commentate with the British radio broadcaster BBC.

Kazuki Nakajima was also lined up to race for Stefan, and he said on his website that his future plans are now "unclear".

Meanwhile, it is rumoured that Red Bull has made an application to the FIA for its Renault engine to be upgraded in order to come closer to the performance development of the leading Mercedes.

And British visitors to Bahrain have been warned about their safety, following demonstrations in the wake of a meeting between the British ambassador and the radical opposition party al-Wifaq.

"Williams would never choose to leave Formula One. So long as we can rub together a few pennies and put together a half-decent budget, we are going to go racing."

But they have already let Renault upgrade, how many more chances are they allowed to get.

That should not be allowed now.

my understanding was that it was at this time last year that renault was allowed to 'improve reliability' but that during last year mercedes also made further changes hence the attempt by RBR to access the mercedes engine only to have that vetoed by mclaren. they now want to, once again, follow mercedes with an 'improvement' to their reliability.

I read yesterday that 'reliability' upgrades are still permitted.

its a bit odd, that. Apparently, every engine change proposal has to be approved by all the other engine manufacturers- why on earth did they agree to further mercedes modifications? The engine was reliable- and better- then everyone elses.

Very very good ponit crusty, just how did McLaren / Merc get permission last year to further improve their engine when there is a engine freeze on ATM in F1???

My interpretation/opinion, has always been that it was so if one manufacturer discovered a loophole that allowed them to get an engine performance improvement, the development path could be monitored by all of the rest. It would not necessarily give away any direct secrets regarding how performance was being enhanced. It would, however, give a series of clues that might allow other manufacturers to follow along. Unless manufacturers are not being honest with the details of their reliability improvements it is difficult to see how one engine manufacturer can get left behind. Even if an upgrade is missed by one engine supplier, they cannot work out how the improvement gives a performance improvement, by the time a second or third engine has been upgraded it should have become evident.

It strikes me as a lot easier just to say "no"- How many mercedes engine failures were there last year?

You must remember Crusty, in this country it is forbidden for anyone in a position of power to give you a straight answer anymore you never here YES or NO to anything, that way these people keep out of trouble and keep there jobs by being non commital, if things come on top.

What a country this has become, i don,t even no the place anymore.

They might as well change the name to Neverland instead of England.

I know the FIA consist of more than one country , just a bit of a rant sorry.
