The Renault was very impressive, especially on a full tank.

Mercedes I'm not sure . . . Rosberg was really holding people up - he had a last minute wing change or something, maybe there was a problem.

We need to get qualifying sorted, there seems little opportunity to recover based on this race.

I disagree on Renault, they were impressive only at the start... I watched live timing and Rubens opened a gap of 12 seconds to Kubika till the last lap when Rubens easied.

FI and us are on the same pace. Qualy will decide.

We are not bad at all IMO... not far away in pace.

1 point - but still, I think the maximum available was 9th and two points, so it is a good result for the team.

But look just what the new points have done. off that we have no chance finishing any higher than fifth in the championship, if the "top four" teams never have problems, and for the new teams to get a point....

That new section of the track has done nothing for the race, I think that has been one of the most boring race weekends I've watched, even with all the anticipation of a new season.

The BBC have had some schoolboy errors with their information this weekend too, mentioning how Schumacher has never taken part in the shoot out qualifying - he did in 2006,

Mansell knowing what it is to race with No 1 on his car - he never did just two of them

Hmm, mixed feelings on this. The car isn't awful but I had hoped there would be a little clear air between us and Force India/Renault. Seems they're a real threat to us.

On the positive side, Rubens and the Hulk looked racey when they got a chance and the Cosworth looks solid, Rubens breezed past the STR-Ferrari grinning smiley Also, we can hope that there will be circuits that suit us better where we might be able to compete with Merc and McLaren.

Our aim surely has to be 5th in the WCC - that's attainable but Force India and Renault will push hard for it too. Don't see us winning a race, though (barring a freak race) - Sam and Patrick are probably getting a little ahead of themselves there.

Thanks . . . only had TV today. The car was as Rubens said, not bad when lighter.

Agree, qualy will decide. We have to qualify ahead of the Mercs and FI. The McLaren has a big straightline advantage.

And I'm disagree with you too!
We were slighty behind Liuzzi.when he's consistantly faster, then he's faster not same pace...and hey it was Liuzzi, the one who's worse than their first driver.

Renault looked really well, Kubica was catching up till the time he clearly backed off abit and saved engine.
Infact he did it sooner than Rubens so the gap grew up.

don't know if anyone is watching the f1 forum on interactive, but i see that hulkenberg got up to beside barrichello at the time of kubica/ force india incident.

He had to go on to the run off area then had 3 cars pass him. Not sure if this was because he thought he may have got a drive through for going on the run off.

It looks that way. A couple of bad races and you're dead. But it makes more difference at the top than at the bottom, which it was designed to do.

You're right, he's not the first driver, but I think he will turn out to be better than Sutil. Sutil was unlucky today, but he attracts incidents like a magnet.

It´s funny because we thought that the race would be different and the grid didn't care a lot...well. we were so wrong...IT'S THE SAME WAY THAT RACES WERE THE LAST SEASON...I hope that this only had happende because of this horrible circuit.

Team comments:

Rubens Barrichello:

It’s good to have a point, but in all honesty, we thought that we would do a little better when we arrived here. So it’s really all down to us, we can see that the competition is pretty fierce and there were no retirements among the leading cars. I think we finished around about where we deserved so it will be up to us to close up the gap. (Prime/Option)

Nico Hulkenberg:

It was a tough and difficult debut for me today. Right from the start, I had to take some evasive action to avoid a crash in turn 2, which dropped me couple of places and a few laps later, I spun at turn 6. Initially I thought there was something broken on the car, but it was not the case. I jumped the kerbs and maybe hurt the car a bit, as it was quite difficult to drive for the rest of what was a long and lonely afternoon for me. It’s been a tough weekend, but the practice and long run pace has been good and we need to build on that. (Option/Prime/Option)

Sam Michael, Technical Director:

It was good to get both cars to the finish and one car in the points. Cosworth will also be happy with engine reliability after all their hard work over the winter. We went for a different strategy with Rubens on the prime tyre at the start, but it looks like the option was quite strong. Nico had car damage after an early spin, so he spent the race learning about the tyres. We are looking forward to Melbourne and taking a step up in performance.

Thanks UG.

Can't say Rubens is happy, the bottom line is we need to work on our performance.

OK, you do have a point...
I think both of us missed the most important aspect of Renault's pace, Kubica was running harder tyers on the second stint wasn't it? If so, Renault is really a lot faster than us, you're right; And fasther than FI too.

A point is a point - there were a lot who had big expectations. I hope we can improve and that updates will work better. Also, there really need to be more emphasis on overtaking - both Hamilton and Massa were actively discouraged by their teams to even attempt overtaking. I think we saw more overtakes then last year at this track but to be honest I don't think we had an interesting race here since 2006.

Both Rubens and Nico did a very slow last lap, probably they were about to run out of fuel...

Well I think if they were about to run out of fuel, they should have run slower not faster...remember Massa in Barcelona last year?

2008 was pretty decent... In the first few laps.

Heidfeld blazing past his competitors like it was 1982 and Hamilton deciding to step out of the box and literally OVERtake Alonso.

I think its very close, and we were let down by poor qually.

Force Inida are as quick as expected, but Renault are a worry. I thought we had the legs of them.

Rubens did a typically strong performance, Nico a bit of a baptism of fire but on the whole i've been impressed with him this weekend.

I get the feeling that (like McLaren), Williams are a bit shell-shocked at their performance. Which is fair enough. If we go on at this rate then we will have slipped from last year which is frankly, a suprise.

I was impressed with the Cosworth nailing the Ferrari down the straight...actually over hauling it side by side is impressive and good reliability by the looks of it.

They just need to bring performance. I hope we have the budget to do it!
