Expecting Better In Australia?

I'd say Williams has a reasonable chance of points in Australia.

Barrichello always seems to go well here - even when it's a lottery. Heidfeld had a reasonable record too, suggesting it rewards determined finishers.

Just looking at the various records of drivers, in different cars, I think a 4 or 5 is on.

we'll see, I think we'll have plenty of accidents because of rookies, and overly eager manoeuvres...

should Rubens and Hulk survive destruction than 6th/9th could be in the bag.

Heard a stat today about Bahrain. Williams has never finished higher than P6.

Yes I hope so. We have no way of knowing how good or bad the car is or how far it can be developed. We must just take Sam at his word for now. If he is saying that there is a lot of performance to be got from optimising the car then we can only wait and see how much the car improves.

Williams and proud of it.

I think we will perform better there, street circuits are always good places for Williams cars and hope the correction of those areas that Sam pointed last week, would be big enough for us to close the gap....but all of them for Rubens I think, Nico would struggle if it's going to be a clean race as Oz is considered to be a hard one for rookies.

I think Mehryar and Batrace have the right handle. It is a circuit which can throw up unusual results but even in that there is a certain consistency.

Barrichello did well here in three different cars . . even the awful Honda. Webber seems a bit 'home race jinxed', as JV always was in Canada.

Statistically speaking, Alonso and Hamilton are clear favourites and the other places are up for grabs.

I have the feeling that the team will improve the FW32 by half a second compared to others, I expect us to battle with Mercedes. Ferrari, Red Bull and Mclaren will all stay ahead of us atm.

It seems from my post in the FW32 development thread that the 32 has quite a few weak area,s , gear change time is to slow , traction is not good enough, and the aero package is not strong enough yet, these are the area,s on the FW32 that Ruby is telling are weak at present

This car is not quick out of the box yet again, but atleast Ruby is on the case, kicking ASS.

I HOPE HE CAN PULL THIS TEAM AROUND, MAYBE POINT OUT SOME WEAK AREA,S IN THE TEAM ITSELF.

Everybody will be faster for the next race even the new teams. They have more information and 2 weeks time for new parts. We will have the same order with RB, Ferrari, Mclaren, MB and Williams. If one of the 4 teams have problems and we are lucky then a better finish. I hope Force India or Renault does not into the act. I do not like the new point system. I should have stayed like it was with extra points for pole, faster lap and leading laps. I do not think we will have the type of season ending like the last couple of years.

It sounds like Williams have several areas that they have identified which need improving, but to expect them to have all been addressed in 2 weeks from one flyaway race to another is a tad optimistic- no way will the driveability of the Cosworth engine, nor the tardiness of the gear-shifts have been addressed in such a short space of time. I would expect to see Williams steadily improve over the next couple of months or so, but to expect an instant turnaround for Australia is, I suspect, a little unrealistic.

Maybe not everyone will be faster. Teams like McLaren and Mercedes will have to redesign their diffusers as ordered by the FIA. Aside from the temporary shift of focus of resources and time on creating a new one, it will (or might?) make them lose a bit of downforce generated by the old one, which I hope will also translate to a loss of a tenth or two. Somebody pinch me if I'm dreaming...

I agree- I think renault are affected by the ruling too.

What about this for a weekend

Dont worry about points, just worry about doing the right thing all weekend. Qualify well even if its 9 - 13, and then make a good race with good decisions and maybe climb up the ladder a little due to a well run weekend.

I expect better racing at Albert Park and I hope for a better result for Williams. We have something to hope for and the race showed it can spring a suprise or two...

The diffuser issue should be an easy one for teams to change. The idea of using the starter hole as part of the airflow is very clever.

Williams and proud of it.

I'd be happy to see us solidly ahead of the Force Indias and Renaults, it's unrealistic at this stage to expect more.

So yes, perhaps we should be a little stronger.

Well, 4 teams will have to change their diffuser (Mercedes and McLaren for sure, Autosport thinks Renault and Force India are the other two), they will lose the advantage that modification gave them. Also, if our updates work this time we could be further up the grid then at Bahrain...

This is what I am afraid about this most & what I wrote earlier in the week. Off the design desks - with no testing - you have GOT to get it right. Else, 4 races @ the euro season's start you are too far behind the 8 ball.

I think Force India seems to be bringing in a performance upgrade to Australia and they are confident of getting more speed. So the diffuser should be a minor thing or an expected one. Do not bet on this.

More than force india, Kubica in Renault was looking impressive in Bahrain, may be they are the team to beat for williams to get closer to the top 4.
