Here we go - Round Two..
Posted by: Oxford Girl (IP Logged)

Hubby flew off tonight with quite a few others for Australia. They have gone earlier so that that they can get acclimatised .. before they start work again next week!!

Not sure how many went out and don't know when the rest follow,

I don't understand why they did not go straight to Oz from Bahrain, Why bring them back, just to fly back over that way again, just doesn't make sense.

Accommodation costs I guess. It is cheaper to pay for 2 extra plane fares then to pay for longer stay at Australia. Besides, weren't you glad to have him home?Back to back races mean you won't get to be home for 3 weeks now. With Bahrain thrown into that it would have been over a month.

Hi Gabal.. of course I was pleased to have him home, but they are fit for nothing The first race is always the hardest, and they just want to sleep when they do get home. It is a difficult one.

Only saying what I think is best for him.

It,s a shame he cannot give us his opinion of the problems williams where having last weekend like Ruby is doing.

Would be nice to compare both views, and of what he actually thinks of this years car compared to last years.also if he has an opinion of the weak link in williams chain of command.

Are they going to get him on Room 101 on the AT&T Williams website? Who do they fly with? They were saying in Room 101 that Ryanair is not very popular at all.

Williams and proud of it.

Aren't you asking too much here gpl? At least regarding the last question. It is not something you share with people like that, at least if you still want to work there.

"Williams would never choose to leave Formula One. So long as we can rub together a few pennies and put together a half-decent budget, we are going to go racing."

I recall Claire Williams was saying she went with Ryanair to the tests but I guess low-fare companies aren't an option in transcontinental flights. Are there any low fare transcontinental airlines? Air Asia had cheap London-K. Lumpur tickets if I recall correctly but I don't know was that some promotion or are those prices typical.

@Oxford Girl It must be tough with husband being away so much every year, you rarely think of that aspect of F1 racing. To us it is just an entertainment and a passion, to you it is a way of life...

The human cost of F1. Something we should not lose sight of. If we have a bad race, we can reach for a bottle or do something to get it out of our system. Those guys have to pack up in a very downbeat garage probably with sounds of partying coming from the winners' garage. A very lonely place and the last place on earth they want to be.

come on pj, you'll have us all in tears soon! of course they all want to win considering the hard work that they put in but if they are real men then they take it in their stride and blat on.

this is a professional team and remember, only one team can be a winner so they all know the odds. trade the tears for beers and get on with it.

True enough kenji, they do have to bounce back they need a lot of bouncebackability, I've always wanted to use that word, but there is a human side too. Anyone listening to the latest Room 101 will hear it for themselves.

(Sm103)

Sure they knew, or should have, what was involved when they took the job, But you see from OxfordGirl's posts over time that there is a significant sacrifice that all F1 personnel and their families make in putting the F1 show on the road. I am talking about all teams here and not just Williams.

WILL SOMEBODY SHUT THAT FIDDLE PLAYER UP - PLEASE lol

Williams and proud of it.

It is all very exciting at first when you achieve your dream job.. the first couple of years are great.. then the excitement drifts away. This is year there has been a lot of changes, with the cars and rules etc, and with the testing too. The race team had to do that with the support team . Yes they do have bouncebackability but sometimes takes a little bit longer to bounce!!!

Yes there are a lot of sacrifices to be made for the team and the families, Not just with Williams but all teams!

I must look at Room 101.. No I doubt if they would have my husband on there.. but you never know, stranger things have happened.

is room 101 the F1 equivalent of the 'hurt locker'?

interesting perspective oxford girl, can't get a more authentic opinion.

my point was that in life there are always disappointments but there are some people that will fall be the wayside and there are those that wander along rather aimlessly. then there are those that see defeat as a challenge and rise to the occasion.

the other point is that if one is not enjoying the conditions then exercise ones inalienable rights to withdraw ones labour. that really is it in a nutshell.

Isn't Room 101 from 1984? It is the place where things are put that are never seen again.

Well, here we go, yet another feature that Autosport has failed to write.

'The Woes Of Fly Away Wives'

But I think, Oxford Girl, you're better off at home than at these new desert races in third world countries. You know you can get a public stoning or even jail for letting your boobs hang out a bit in the Mid E . . .

No booze, no sex and most of all no overtaking . . . . I can't wait for Bernie to be buried in concrete and sand, sorry. Underneath an overhanging, Tilke hotel of course.

I don't have high hopes for this race... action wise... I know Bahrain is always a yawnfest and this year's race was no exception, but if Schumacher is complaining it's boring then we have a serious problem on our hands, I wouldn't be surprised if I find myself falling asleep during the race if it's just as bad. sad smiley

ah- come off it- Scumacher was simply too slow to overtake. Who was he trying to get past? No-one. If criticising the regs takes the attention off his low-key return to the cockpit, then all the better for him.

Ive just watched the race again, and there was loads of mid-field overtaking. what really stood out was how major moments came across as quite dull/were completely missed by the commentators. As DLR was approaching Buemi to overtake, Kubica pulled an amazing last minute overtake on him- fully aware that DLR was distracted, and not very race-sharp. Not one comment from the bbc.

Im sure Jonathan Legard is aware of criticisms over last year's inane performance, and I expected at least a sharper, more focussed effort this year- not a chance!
