Interestingly maldonado's work this morning. they lightened the fuel and are doing stints 5 laps, with a lap slower. it's good thing that he is lowering his time run by run .. so the adjustments work well.

Lotus’ dramatic setback, with a chassis failure on Day 1 here, has been a major talking point. It appears that they thought they’d come up with a super new way of making lighter weight monocoque using clever composite techniques, but when the car tested in Barcelona, for some reason, perhaps to do with loadings, perhaps a construction issue, the chassis failed. This was verified when the other chassis was put on the test rig at the factory.

I just don't want to believe that... I would love it you were wrong.
I think that although we're being rational, pesimisitc or rather optimistic - there's no point to it. This is just occasion for us fans to kill some time and to hope that we'll be better than last year. If we're not better, we're in for a looooooong desperate season.

I just can't wait for Melbourne practice to start...

Not so bad.

I thought we're 4 seconds slower than the midfield, 3 seconds slower than Caterham and a second slower than HRT and Marussia.

Good to read that I was wrong.

They're letting it fly a bit.
Good that he does exactly the same lap time after an slower lap.
He has done it with Medium tyres.

While we know very little of their respectiv fuel loads when these times were set, this seems to be very positive news indeed...

Despite Maldonado setting the best lap:
11:03 Schumacher was fastest overall in S1:. 21.540s

The Mercedes must be a better car.

@OfficialSF1Team: #Kamui did 48 laps - more than anybody else so far today. With a new set of soft tyres he also improved his lap time. [t.co]

Am I the only one interpreting this as that Sauber might not be that fast?

Bragging about the number of laps this far is just strange, and his time on softs was worse than Maldonado's on mediums.

I'm probably reading too far into things, but I really want them to be slower than us...
