I trust that the team know what's up.

The feeling of despair from the fans is just normal. It's a reaction to fear. Some demonstrate this more than others, but everyone has it.

There's no point trying to comfort desperate fans. The only possible way anyone supporting Williams will feel well is if the team performs in season.

Everything is boiling up inside and if the team is rubbish in 2012, we can expect a vulcanic eruption of emotion from 70% of this forum.

Hopefully it'll be a good year, and we'll be erupting for other reasons not concerning on track performance.

@ Mansell's flying wheelnut, thanks for the timing summary screen- it was most informative. In fairness, Anderis, Williams did appear to be the only team not to do short stints, and most teams had at least one stint of a relative or slower pace than that of Williams at some stage or another.

Never the less, Testing is notoriously difficult to read and therefore, I put a lot more stock on the comments the team give than on lap times as they have far more information accessible than we.

Usually, a positive spin is given by the team after finishing low down the order, primarily because the mainstream media base their daily report entirely on the standings, but today, there were absolutely no crumbs of comfort, and this was after stating that Barcelona would give a better picture of the true pace of the car. We have had 5 testing days now, and on all 5 days, Williams have been at the foot of the table, discounting the newer teams.

Last season did jade me, but that is not the reason for my negativity. for Williams this year, the stakes couldn't be higher. The FW34 simply HAS to perform and I for one am very nervous as it is around this time of year that the teams start to understand what sort of a season they are in for. They finished 9th last year, and as a result are now down to two pay drivers. In short, they have no more tricks to play, and 5 days into testing, to hear negative comments and see such a consistent lack of performance worries me more than at any other time during my support of the team.

Were Williams to finish 9th again this year,in spite of a senior technical reshuffle, I find the consequences scary to imagine. Senna's or Maldonado's sponsors may well get disillusioned and withdraw their backing, leaving the team with little option but to downsize their factory.

Alternatively, What was it Ecclestone hinted at a while ago? That Williams' problems may well be found at a higher level. (ie, Parr/SFW?) Well a repeat season with no sign of improvement (see Gillan's launch quote- "It is imperative that we demonstrate continuous improvement") would hint very strongly that Ecclestone was right, and could force SFW/Parr to sell themselves out in order to maintain sponsor confidence for the greater benefit of the workers at the Grove factory.

I know my imagination is running away a bit here, but what I see right now is a team in 9th in the standings running consistently in 9th, with two mediocre pay drivers at the helm and negative vibes coming from them and the team. I am not for one second making any assumptions that the year will be a bad one. Too much can happen between now and Melbourne, and again from Melbourne to Abu Dhabi, but right now Senna seems very clear in his comments- the team are not fast enough right now and they cannot afford that to continue.

What I gather is that BS is happy with the mid-High speed corners- a very anti Williams trait from the first 10 years of the 21st century.

Only in the last couple of years have we been able to say we go as expected around the high speed corners as slow speed & the mechanical grip was our strength.

Crusty,i dont understand your argument about the comments that gillan and senna give.

And what you are expecting from them to say?

I coulnt imagine if we have the problems that lotus have....

Whats there to get? Senna said the team has not improved as much as they needed to and that they would be looking to improve both pace and consistency.

He was hardly positive about the medium to high speed corners either. All he said was that they were "consistent".

Hardly a glowing review. And did Gillan offer any crumbs? No- he simply told us what they did, like he was deliberately avoiding passing comment on the car's performance.

Senna's talk is a bit of personal frustration by not being able to complete his work (by not testing tomorrow).

Very subtle observation!

I'll save my opinion on the car until I hear what Bottas and Pastor have to say about it.

And there is still another round of testing pending before the start of the season, so the team is probably not in a hurry right now to do glory laps.

They really should have given Bottas one of Pastor's days. He is the number 2 driver after all.

^^ You're comment is very opinionated and not logical. Pastor brings more money to the team, hence, he gets more days. It is as straight forward as that.

I'd be worried if the team had no idea where the car is strong and where it needs to be improved ... but this is not the case.

sound "sick" from Senna comment......

As usual.......what we've got in testing that it is, we're not like other team like Suber, force india and STR, they are always give a surprise speed in qualy and race. don't you analyse it before???????????

for me it's too easy to judge Williams car.

I want to see bottas today do a 1.21 and you all go bananas and in melburne to be 14-15 on the grid.Simply paranoid stuff here.

@ TerraNova19, I like this point and I hope you are right.
@ azouris, you have missed the point.

If Bottas went fastest, and both he and Gillan said they needed to improve both pace and consistency, I would be just as unhappy. Senna is basically saying that right now, the car is slow and inconsistent, both signs of little downforce.

Things can change, but yesterday was clearly a disappointment for the team. Hopefully the issues are resolvable, and today they find better ways of unlocking more speed through different aero parts and set ups.
