14:34 Interesting spread of compounds being used on track at the moment. Hamilton and Bottas are on softs, Vettel is the only driver on mediums, while Hulk and Petrov are using hards.

Lotus E20 chassis crisis bigger than they want to admit?

Too bad for them if it becomes bigger than a ant hill.

I'd rather compete with them (& every1) else when they are @ top strength.

They are a solid team. Had build good cars over the last years.

But the lost of some engineering people is starting to be seen more and more.

Well, how many times do teams pull entire tests to do that - especially in this era of limited testing?

So it's worrying for them, I think we can assume.

This doesnt mean it's the end of the world though. If, as Gary Anderson has menitoned, it is simply to do with component/bonding issues with the mounts then that is fine. Enstone have been working with mating the Renaqult engine to a chassis longer than anyone else so he doubts its a design issue.

If it is a design issue then it will mean a new chassis and a patched chassis for melbourne. That is where the wheels come off their charge a bit.

But apart from the lost mileage, i guess its only a medium-size deal at the moment. We shall see...

I'm really glad we are logging so much mileage on this car.

OK so a great number of laps today, but it doesn't tech us anything. Hopefully we will get some honest detail from the driver and team later on!

Barcelona Test Day Two

Posted on Wednesday 22 Feb 2012

Driver: Valtteri Bottas
Chassis / engine: FW34-01 / RS27-5281/1
Location: Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona 4.655km
Objectives: Set-up work and tyre comparison runs
Weather: Dry and sunny all day
Ambient & track temps: 17ºC / 24ºC
Fastest time: 1:25.738, 8th (On lap 103 of 117)

Mark Gillan, Chief Operations Engineer: Valtteri did a good job today completing 117 laps without issue, working on general car set-up with a run plan tailored around familiarising him with a typical Friday P1 race session.

Valtteri Bottas: I really enjoyed today. It was great to get back in the car as I have been waiting for this day since I took part in the young driver test in Abu Dhabi last year. The FW34 again showed good reliability, as we completed 117 laps while doing some interesting tests with the car set-up. I’m looking forward to assisting the team at race weekends this season and can’t wait to drive the car again.

The Williams F1 Team will be back on track tomorrow, Thursday 23 February, with Pastor Maldonado driving the FW34 for the third day of the test.

do we normally drive the second chassis later on in testing?

there's so much about the team that is different this year. good to see.

could be that the second chassis is different from the first, because now they know about installing the Renault certainly more

Mansell`s flying wheelnut: Quite a few teams again doing 2 or 3 lap qually style runs, I have a feeling Williams wont do that until Pastor is in the car maybe Friday, it will look good for his sponsors I suppose as he is bringing in a mighty chunk of cash.

No, my amigo, Williams does not need to do glory laps during test sessions to keep Pastor's sponsors happy.

What matter is what happens on Sundays when the checkered flag is waved.

Williams is behaving like a very serious operation right now, with a medium and long term approach at climbing up the F1 points ladder. Slow but consistent progress.

Yes, they will probably do qually-style runs on Thursday and Friday with Pastor, but that's only after the car-engine-gearbox integration has been properly understood, as well as aero tweaks.

So, calm down folks! I think we are going to have a better pace than many here imagine during the season. We have a good package and a seem to have a plan for constant improvements during the season.

And BTW, we do not have "a pair of mediocre drivers" as someone said. They are rookies, but they both have proven to be fast in lower categories and capable of winning races and entire championships. Our weakness during the last few years has been our car and engine, not the drivers (except for Nakajima, he he).

Decent amount of laps, apparently a constant program throughout the day (those 10-12 lap stints). Great to see Bottas get some miles.

No glory runs so we can't compare directly with others, I'm well aware of that. However that 3s gap to the fastest time is not flattering. Quite embarrassing, in fact.

I think that mechanical grip issue is significant.

A 3s gap to a team that just had one of its main sponsors' accounts, Kingfisher Airlines, seized by tax authorities and a lot of flights termination in the books.

I'm pretty sure they needed that glory run more than we do.

Same for Sauber's. Another glory run in the face of yesterday's woe when Perez couldn't leave the pits without breaking the car.

Day 2 barcelona F1 test: one can't read much about the result today. Too many variables to draw conclusions!

Pastor Maldonado @Pastormaldo
Que probaran los otros equipo? que estaremos probando nosotros? cuanto peso tiene cada quien? la respuesta en menos de 1 mes en Australia.

Translation: What are the other teams testing? What are we testing? How much weight does everyone have? The answer in less than 1 month in Australia.
