Possible blown front wing?

The pillars looks suspicionaly "blown" if you know what I mean.

Also, where is the DRS mechanism?. There is a working DRS since you can see it in the open position in the first picture, but I see no arm.

Or I'm completely blind.

The following pictures make me think that the Merc has very small side pods. The first overhead "teaser shot". If its anything like the actual car in much the same way as the front 3/4 teaser was, then those side pods are very flat against the body and present a tiny frontal area.

The next pictures, already posted above, seems to show this as well. Notice that the side pod vane appears to be tucked ever so slightly behind the barge board vane, suggesting extremely small side pods...

Cool if they pulled it off.

Look at the front pillars beneath the nose. Is it just me or they look somekind "fat", especially comparing to other teams pillars where they are as thin as possible.

There could be a air intake hole under the nose connected to those pillars, directing air to frong wing.

Or it could be just imagination grinning smiley

the sidepods look slim indeed.

I have no idea what's going on in the nose. Pillars look a bit different but it could be an illusion. We'll know soon enough.

I think the designers eventually discovered that the step introduced by the regs can actually be a good thing. Like they have to divert the air flow from the driver anyway.

i dont know why but in my eyes that car especially in the front wing looks 'menacing' my first impression was jeez that should be quick...

Could it be that we are looking for some silver bullet that simply isn't there?

To my mind, Mercedes are launching their car late, not because they have anything magical to hide, but because they wanted to get the most out of the the raft of new technical directors they hired last autumn.

Mercedes were roumered to have some sort of frontal f-ductage last year so it may well be a trick item...

Very nice concept! I doubt it will be easy to implement into F1 car. Will see.

ON the video they released there's a brief look at the sidepods. I think the leading edge of the sidepods looks a bit concave, kind of like this |\O/|, where 0 is the driver's helmet seen from above.

I'm probably wrong though, it was a very short glimpse.

Amazing sidepods packaging on that Mercedes.

I hoped that with the lesser cooling requirements of the Renault engine compared to the Cosworth we could make smaller sidepods like the Red Bull, but I seriously doubt it. sad smiley

I assume that FW-34 for Jerez the front wing and sidepods were the same to the FW-33. The were testing the car major components (KERS, gearbox, new engine and new tires). The have a base with the FW-33 with the old tires and aero loads from the old bodywork. The test at Barcelona (the last one) will be for testing aero. Mercedes did that with the old car to check the difference in tire design and compound. Mark G is very analytically and testing with the least changes gives you a base to start changing. Jerez test were race simulations and the car performed without major failures.

I have compared some pics of the FW33 and the FW34 and the sidepod inlets aren't the same, they're a little bit smaller and more rounded on the FW34:
