One guy at Autosport forum:

I have heard some rumours of Maldonado close to losing his job due to old PDVSA conflict stories, actually Bruno is taking his place, with Barrichello or Sutil being his experienced partner

He actually says that he heard those rumours today. (Sm8)

Yes WTF. How could Williams get rid pf Pastor?

Re: WTF
Mikef1 16 January, 2012 11:03
and do you believe it? I would like to think so but I can't allow myself the false hope sadly.

WTF indeed. only proves that Williams is making a mess of the announcement!

It will be a litmus test on Pastor if the PDVSA money evaporates. Williams has always given the impression that Pastor deserves the drive on merit. I hope we don't lose the money, but will Pastor be at Williams without PDVSA?

Williams and proud of it.

The way Williams has been handling this it's obvious they're looking for the highest bidder. I think that if PDVSA money evaporates Williams will be forced to look for another pay driver, even if the official line is that Pastor is good enough for F1 with or without the cash bolstering his seat.

Hulk was good enough for F1, by all accounts, and see how that ended up. It's an cash decisions, not a talent decision.

Maybe Im getting increasingly cynical now, but with this rumour frenzy of misinformation going around, I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't just another load of b/s. Hell, for all we know, the poster on the autosport forum could be Jerome D'Ambrosio's manager or something.

This sounds a bit far-fetched but a Barrichello and Senna pairing would be a much better story (and a much better driver combo) considering Ayrton was Rubens' mentor and Rubens could then be Bruno's. Probably not going to happen unfortunately.

I don't think PDVSA is going away. But if they did Pastor would be out of a job, no doubt about it in my mind.

That would have been the way to go.

And y'all know what I've heard? Renault wanting to pull infinity towards Williams and with that its ambassador Vettel will make a surprise switch to Williams as well as Newey who will follow him in 2013. PDVSA, QNB, Qtel, Gillette and Total will all become sponsors for a combined amount of 324 million euros over the period of one season.

Oh well almost a fact is that Bruno will get the seat. But on what conditions.. no one knows. Let's wait later today. Various respected journos dropped the notion that Williams will announce something today. And if jog, just wait another two weeks. As Joe Saward mentioned: Mansell got his debut seat at Lotus just one week before the start of the season back in the 80ies.
Now we all know that the 2nd (or rather 1st) driver will test. So in 2 weeks we will know it fo sho.

My take: a bit positive!

I feel, money is a problem, but not as bad as it sounds, I sure, if we were that badly off, Frank can rummage enough dough from his own pockets or somewhere, heck, we are still a 500 member strong team, one of the biggest and not one person has been fired so the situation ain't that bad, but Frank being Frank, and so many drivers available with a lotta cash, why not take them? More money is always welcome, is it not, it makes a lot of sense from a business point of view, if there were no pay drivers available then Frank would have hired 2 drivers anyway, simple. It would be pretty stupid at this stage not do the above.

I think,As this year has been described as a rebuilding year, Frank is trying to put a healthy budget together, so that there is never an excuse like " we didn't have the resources", so:

1. PDVSA - 30 mil
2. Senna - 15 mil
3. Qatar - 50 mil
4. Rest of the sponsors - 20 mil
5. FIA - 20 mil
6. Renault - xx mil I don't know!

the above figures are purely speculative, but think about our budget, and what wonders this much cash can do for us, For Williams the car is the King, and I think this fits into the plan pretty well.
