James Key is out of Sauber. That could help us a notch since he came to Sauber the team improved their performance. No news where Key is going. I hope he goes to HRT that could use a Miracle.

Surprising news, I thought he did a great job at Sauber and the year before at Force India.

I guess this rules out HRT

"I think the team is now well set for the future and I wish it the very best. I have been offered a new role back in the UK, which I decided to accept."

How about Team Willy? Do we have a place for him?

It's fairly stunning news.

Sauber paid a lot of dosh to poach the 'key people' from Force India. VJ complained at the time about the silly salaries they were offered.

It's a funny time to move jobs though. I guess someone has him signed up for 2013.

Yeah McLaren have lost a few to Ferrari over the past 12 months so my moneys on them.

Would be great to have him backing up Mike though

Coughlan is a great engineer ... I would not change, even if Key has proved it can do its work ..

I also bet on McLaren

I wouldn't change Mike either, this car is his baby so I wouldn't push him aside just yet thats why I say it would be nice to have Key backing him up.

Plus, lets not forget, Mike is an unknown quantity and we haven't got a clue whether he has the ability to produce a decent car. We all know he was the one stealing other teams designs and he hasn't designed or overseen an F1 project for many years.

This is his litmus test, hopefully he's done the business.

Coughlan was the chief designer of McLaren who fought for the world title for several years. He made a mistake and he paid for it, the only doubt about its capabilities is its absence from the circus in recent seasons. but on the qualities of him there can't be doubt

A small point of order: He didn't steal anything, the info was given to him.

Whilst at McLaren Mike was effectively working around Neweys aeros and extraordinary talent. Mikes time there also coincided with a baron spell for McLaren winning no titles at all during his tenure, plus the ill fated and laughable MP4-18 project which was his first car which he helped to produce at the end of 2002.

Since his expulsion he's been involved in an armoured vehicle project and the laughable StefanGP team.

As for the definition of theft Mike Coughlan was indeed guilty of that offence, that's why Ferrari brought about a THEFT warrant to search his house and found their blueprints. He knew he had no right to those designs and deprived Ferrari of them stealing their intellectual property for his own gains. If joe blocks burgled your home and stole your TV then came to me offering it telling me where it's from I become part an parcel of the theft - handling stolen goods. Don't defend the indefensible, the sport didn't ban him for nothing.

I'm not trying to belittle the mans credentials or talent an hope to god he stops the technical rot at the team but let's not destort the truth.
