I think the decision was made in about June wasn't it?

Re: AMuS: Bottas to replace Senna
Anderis 24 November, 2012 17:46
I'm pretty sure it wasn't. Bottas was not going to be "stolen" by other team so early so there was no point to hurry. I think the decision has been taken in the last 30-40 days.

On the other hand, AMuS reports that nobody is really interested in Senna and his money, and Razia has sponsorship backing over $30 million but he is struggling to find anything as well!

With so much talent and money about, there are plenty to choose from. Bruno has just not done enough. I still think Bottas was always going to be in the car in 2013.

Lets hope he is as good as some here seem to think.

Was the decision not made on march when he was hired as reserve driver?

If we are going by this way, the decision was made in early December 2011, when Bottas was announced to have 15 FPS this season.

No, I think the decision was not made yet. Maybe it was an intention to have Bottas in a racing seat for 2013, but from intention to decision is a long way, especially in F1.

Who will be our new reserve driver?

That's a good question.

If we get Martin Brundle as reserve and Friday tester, we would get more media exposure and attract sponsors, so we can break the shackles of PDVSA and his Mal-duh-na-duh, who have brought so much shame to this once glorious squad!!!

Martin is younger than Nigel.

He would take Bottas' car on Friday morning. That should teach Valtteri a lesson !!

If we take Brundle, we can safely assume we WILL get sponsors fast, so, we might as well just dump the@#$%&right NOW and hire another real driver, from the widely available pool of great performers that currently exists. Some of them have been forced into playing the piano, stabbing others for food, and avoiding some countries due to unfair law practices.

It was on the BBC F1 Gossip website several weeks ago that Susie wolf was about to be announced as test and reserve driver. Nothing else has been reported about it since so wether it was the BBC making stuff up or they have inside info I couldn't tell you.

I wonder how Martin and nige would have got on this season. More points than our current drivers I would guess.

Mansell would have won a race and commented how it was his skill that did it because his gearbox was on the brink of going pop, when it actually wasn't.

Then he would have accused the team of giving Maldonado a special differential when he was actually asked if he wanted to use it and turned it down.

tongue sticking out smiley

I wonder if Luciano Burti is stil available.

Would prefer a non Latino, though. You know how those people are!

Well, let's hope it is a done deal. Williams wouldn't dream of announcing it before the conclusion of the Brazilian GP for obvious reasons. I like the body language we are seeing from Pastor and Valteri and I think they will each benefit from the other.
As for a new reserve, there is a bit of a case for Suzie. Her loyalty is beyond question, she overtakes cleanly and she has quite a good fighting spirit. On the other hand, she is not very quick, has poor qualifying record and her age (29) is against her as a future race prospect.
I'd love to see Cecotto in the job. He's blindingly fast, hugely determined and has backing to make him the natural replacement for Pastor, when the time comes. Of course, he's also wild and dangerous, breaks cars regularly and needs to learn racecraft to be good in F1. His biggest asset though, is he would put pressure on Pastor by nullifying the PDVSA money.

I think Bottas could be good news . . . and he may run Maldonado quite close.

We really don't know to what extent Senna makes Pastor look quick by being slow.

Senna has the worst qualifying record of any driver against a team mate this year. (Beaten 18-2 - even more thrashed than Kartikheyan.) On the other hand, Rubens and Pastor came out fairly even, at a time when no one really considered Rubens 'blindingly quick'.

I am still disappointed by the pairing though. It looks like Force India will run Di Resta and Sutil in 2013, and may beat us again with more solid drivers. Sauber also has an anchor man in Hulkenberg, though Esteban may be a gamble.

iWITNESS: Last night marked the final UBS Track Run of the year and Williams F1 were well represented by our engineering department. Jonathan Eddolls and Dom Harlow scorched their way around the 4.3km Interlagos circuit, but they had to do without their ringer, Valtteri Bottas. Our third driver felt ill and thought it best not to take part, which left Nico Rosberg’s trainer, Daniel Schlosser, with a free rein at the front of the pack. Message from Valtteri? “Wait until Melbourne, Daniel”!

“Wait until Melbourne, Daniel”!

ok...

Lets just hope we get the announcement quickly after the race.
