This kinda blows me away....Sergey Sirotkin's F1 career is over after just one single year in the sport, he is still very young but his F1 career is over just like that....Kinda freaks me out how a drivers F1 career can just come and go like that.

I am 99% sure that Sirotkin will never have a race seat in Formula 1 ever again.

Did Williams and the FW41 kill Sirotkin's F1 racing career?

Re: Sergey Sirotkin

Maybe maybe not
He was never going to win much whatever car he drove C Class driver in my book.

Re: Sergey Sirotkin
ihme 12 December, 2018 09:43
Recently he was speaking about possibility of becoming Ferrari's sim driver just like Kvyat and because of what happened with Kvyat and his return to Toro Rosso and potentially a seat in Sauber or Haas with Ferrari power units he thinks that it woulbd be a way to be back in F1 again in 2020.

Re: Sergey Sirotkin

I doubt it if i am honest.
money talks tho.

CLOVERLEAF 888 12 December, 2018 17:04
I actually think he done a much better job and we on this forum should give him some credit. He's not a top driver, but he didn't really bin it many times and had the worst car on the grid. He had no chance. I would like him to get another go.

+1
In my book if KMAG, Grosjean, Stroll and Kvyat are on the grid, he deserves a seat too.Not to mention these new kids joining can be failures too.
With a car too hard to drive, he never did stupid things like Grosjean or KMag and it was his debut year. With a year of experience he could make a good jump in performance.

Paydriver tag never helps, driving the slowest car on the grid too and the last 2 Russian drivers didn't make a good reputation for these guys.

Hope he can get a second chance sometime in future.

With more places on the grid he might have had more opportunities and of course it was unlucky that the only shot he had was on an undriveable, irremediably flawed car.

That said, it is not unusual to see good drivers come and go from F1, sometimes for reasons that go beyond their merits. Just think of Vandoorne or Ocon, who are equally left without a drive and who definitely have shown more potential than SIR. Or all the drivers who were ditched by TR/RB. Or Hulkenberg in 2010... I guess it would be a long list. So no, I am not that surprised. If he can find a place in another series (Formula E?) he will be perfectly fine.

I know Sergey Sirotkin isn't the only one that this has happened to but It just kinda amazes me when I see an F1 drivers career in the sport over after just one single season...Kinda freaky.

Agree with Cloverleaf. He may not be WDC material but he did a good job in a very bad car. I think he is as good as 80% of the grid. Nice bloke by all accounts too and a hard worker. I wish him all the best.

Re: Sergey Sirotkin

Its interesting would Sirotkin be as good as Bottas or not quite as good as him?

Equal to Bottas? Maybe?

He's certainly elite. Imagine a club of drivers who - having started to all the races in a season - managed to score a point or less in total. Here's the club's hall of fame since 2006:

2018 Sirotkin
2017 Ericsson
2016 Gutierrez, Wehrlein, Palmer, Ericsson
2015 Stevens
2014 Gutierrez, Sutil, Maldonado
2013 Van der Varde, Chilton, Pic, Bianchi, Maldonado
2012 Petrov, Glock, Pic, Kovalainen, Karthikeyan, De la Rosa
2011 D'Ambrosio, Kovalainen, Maldonado
2010 Glock, Di Grassi, Trulli, B. Senna, Kovalainen
2009 Nakajima
2008 Sutil, Fisichella
2007 Barrichello, Sutil, Davidson
2006 Sato, Albers, Monteiro, Speed, Liuzzi

Don't you think they do have something in common? (Sm103)

Yes, almost all were driving terrible cars. As did SIR this year.

Ridiculous question. Sirotkin is superior to Bottas

Booo, wrong answer (Sm112) Most are

a) gone
b) not missed
c) hardly remembered.

I am too lazy to make an all-time table, which would take the membership card back from the likes of Rubens, and leave us with the creme de la creme of the sport. Where Sirotkin of course would still firmly belong.

Gotta love the shitty car excuse for Sirotkin.

Alonso was driving a Minardi. Ricciardo's first outing in F1 was in the HRT.

If someone will show the potential to be a great driver in the crappiest car he will make it in F1. If Sirotkin would have made an impact in F1 all the smart people would offer him a reserve or sim driver role immediately. Instead he was outscored by Stroll and crashed in the barrier on the Monaco's straight (!).

When it's Kubica, people in the paddock are living in a cage, don't have any data or anything...when it's Sirotkin, they are "smart" people!
Double standard.

This is funny, a driver makes it to F1 but doesn't quite cut the mustard! Seems we can draw parallels to this phenomenon outside of hyper space.

Re: Sergey Sirotkin

Really not just Sirotkin, with any young driver that comes into Formula 1 and only gets one season in the sport and then his F1 career is over, I mean how does that work?

Look at Mark Webber he was hopeless and could not cut the mustard and just look at how many years he had a race seat in F1, Sirotkin was as good as Webber.

So why does Webber have so many years in F1 but Sirotkin only has 1 year?

The number of points achieved depends mainly from variables different than driver's ability, most of all car competitiveness, so it can't really be used as a parameter to judge drivers. Had Sirotkin driven for Williams in 2017, he wouldn't belong to your club (Sm105)

How is it an excuse? He had the worst car on the grid, that's a fact. And still he managed to show some speed in qualifying, something guys like Eriksson, Gutierrez or Bruno Senna, who had far more opportunities, never did. None is putting SIR in the same ballpark of Alonso or Ricciardo, but it is objectively unlucky to have your only shot at F1 in the grid's worst car.

As for your other point, the same can be of course said of Kubica - if he's still the great driver he was in the past, why has he gotten a drive only when he could put together some $$$?
