I think it was 1984 Niki Lauda, I was reading about him the other day and he was saying how he was nowhere in qualifying so gave up and concentrated on the races.

I’ve also the thought of 1986 but I think Prost got the pole at Monaco

Sorry was away and missed the reply. Yep Darron, always thought Hill wasn't given enough credit in that season, a bit more luck and he'd have pushed Prost so close to the championship, not bad for a rookie year!
