Early days. At least the Williams team will have a big injection of funds with both Sirotkin and Kubica coming on board. Now the next big things is the FW41.

When the anouncement of the reserve driver as much more support on social media and it isn't just Polish fans it's fans in general I think it's all said.

Well at least Martini will be pleased. Doubt Sirotkin will be anything but a bad choice.

Williams seems like a junior team this days the problem is to which manufacturer.

P7 or lower is my expectations for 2018.

So... the rumor circulating right now is:

- Kubica has paid nothing for his extended development driver role,
- Kubica is being paid by Williams, handsomely,
- Kubica's sponsors have the money frozen and waiting for him if needed (miltiple millions, up to 10),
- option in his contract to become a regular driver for 2019,
- Lowe still hugely behind Kubica,
- Sirotkin was choosen because he was the safest option for the time being, they are willing to let Kubica prove that the speed is still there, hence the rumored 8 FP's Kubica will get (there were rumors that Williams had these 8 for sale, but Kubica gets them for free) and participation in all of the season testing,
- the russian money is being paid in chunks,
- Rosberg is happy about the situation and the contract,
- Kubica's contract its more complicated that people think,
- Benoit talks about possible performance clauses in the Sirotkins contract,
- thats why all of this took so long, there are multiple nuances in the contracts that needed to be finally agreed upon.

I am glad Robert has decided to stay with our team.

Still game on for Robert who knows where it will lead.

There has got to be a performance clause so if Sergey
cannot cut it and or screws up Robert jumps into the second car.

Also the bit about if the Russian money does not arrive on time again
Robert jumps into the FW41.

...and if papa Stroll buys Force India for the kid, Robert jumps into where he belongs.

Which is all sort of promising - after all, he's the only driver Williams decided to spend money on winking smiley

Do you have any source for any of this? I ask because I find any of it very hard to believe. Williams pay Kubica? Come on! They have just taken a load of cash in from Sirotkin. They aren't going to give it away to someone sitting on the sidelines.

I think Sirotkin will surprise many people. The lad is good and I am very pleased we have picked a RACER. Not sure how many errors he will make but it's not fair to assume he is another KVY and lose his head.

I may stand alone with this view but I think we have a couple of really good drivers. Stroll was thrown in too quickly but was his performance all that bad? Do points win prizes?

What we need is the money to build a fast car and these boys can bring in the bacon. We shall see but I think comparing to 2012 is way off the mark.

If it was in Hughes' article it would have some weight but in the user comments? Nope!

Sorry I misread you're original post. I hadn't realised the posts were from Hughes. My mistake.

However, unless we are talking about different articles you are reading more into it than Hughes says. He never, for example, says that Kubica is being paid "handsomely". He actually says "Kubica doesn't bring money to the 3rd driver role, I am told, but is actually paid." He might be being paid £1.

I think that's the best way for Kubica if he gets some friday runs, he can adopt to new machines and tyres and get ready for 2019 fully.

Let's see what these 2 young kids can do in 2018.who knows! Sirotkin can prove all of us wrong though on paper it's our worst line-up since...since I can remember.

The problem whit taking such a risk on inexpirience is that the other side of the garage doesn´t have it to.

I really wouldn´t mind Sirotkin making is debut with us pairing Kubica not Stroll.

Stroll is key factor why the team as such a short manouver space to make good decisions.
He isn´t a good driver and excuses are running out to is weak performances.

Maybe, just maybe Sirotkin will turn out better then what I expect but compared to who? Stroll isn´t a standart to look for.

Anyone on the grid would beat him in the same machinery except probably Ericsson.

How depressing. Hardly an inspiring pair for the engineers and designers.

]Robert Kubica returns to Formula 1 as a reserve and development driver!!!

"This is an opportunity for Robert to cover many kilometers, it is a very important contract for him and a step in the right direction, he can give him the first driver in F1 in 2019" - says Nico Rosberg about the role of reserve and development driver Robert Kubica.

As Auto Motor und Sport informs, Robert will be paid for his duties and did not need sponsors' money to get this job. They will appear only when Kubica gets the role of the first driver.
