Good morning,

Its not clear to me if this is really a sponsorship deal or coverage in return for a service.

A short while ago Lewis Hamilton seemed to get into some tax trouble with his private jet and Sir Frank is reported in the Williams accounts as

Williams Grand Prix Engineering Limited is party to a two-year sub-lease with Tri-leg Leasing Limited for an aircraft for use by Sir Frank Williams on Group business. Tri-leg
Leasing Limited leases the aircraft from its owner, Arnab Global Limited, a company of which Sir Frank Williams is sole beneficial owner. In addition Sir Frank Williams holds a mortgage over the aircraft. During the year the Group incurred costs of 152,000 (2016: 151,000) to Tri-Leg Leasing Limited a

So this may simply be a more tax safe way of doing things.

Bye

Ian

God morning to you too Ian.

I don't think the distinction you draw is really all that significant. If a service is provided that would otherwise need to be paid for, it still helps the team to cover its costs. That is all that sponsors which pay in cash rather than necessary services do too.

Nice to see that I am not alone when it comes to the Judge13. The stories that are run cover nothing new and just have a catchy headline. Some of the stuff I have read made we frustrated enough to tweet him saying how tabloid the site was.

Even you guys at least come up with new thoughts, new bits of information, possible reasons for things.

Anyway any thoughts on who will replace Lowe at Williams. I suppose it all comes down to who is available or can be attracted to leave possibly another team.

New sponsor: Netjets. At least the commercial team are producing results.

For me the difference is one of magnitude. :-)

If the NetJets deal is mostly just covering the cost of Sir Frank's jet then yes it is still money worth saving and the space on the car is free(ish) as it is not in use.

This isn't the same as thinking, ahh a new logo on the nose that means another million or two.

Do you remember the last real Lotus car, the 1994 one, the year before they partnered with Pacific? That car was covered in logos, it made the team look well sponsored but next year they turned up in partnership with Pacific GP.

Bye

Ian

I think when Williams lost their tobacco sponsors they went downhill.

It sucks for Williams losing tobacco sponsorship because they were one of the top teams when they had tobacco sponsors but now they don't have tobacco sponsors they kinda suck.

Pierre Gasly would have to be the weakest driver ever to get a drive in a top team, Pierre Gasly getting a Red Bull race seat is a friggen joke.

Pierre Gasly = very avaerage driver.

Yes it is great news. Tata is no small company but a big multi billion dollar India company. All those people who are out selling the Williams name as a platform on which to sell their brands seem to be doing a good job.
