I wonder if there is a problem right at the top. I run a business which has come down through the generations and it can be really tough if the previous boss won't keep out of it. Is this what's happening here? Who is actually running the team? SFW for all he is a legend, is in no fit state to run a modern F1 team. But is he still making calls and frustrating things for Clare? It's very possible. As I say, I live it and when it's your own father, very difficult.

@phatjack, clearly you understand zero percent of the post thus your answer is irrelevant.
Editing a post of 4-5lines for 3times looks even more silly though.
Try harder next time, it's 2-3yrs since you've posted something meaningful.just typing bs in answer of those you want to troll....sad life you have.

The News and Stuff! thread is dead! Long live the News and stuff! thread!

Or should this be renamed Racing Point News and Stuff! After all is it the same thread or is it a new one. Maybe we should ask Haas for comment! smiling smiley

SFW . . is he still making calls and frustrating things for Claire?

Hmmmm. He stepped down from the board years ago . . . when Adam Parr was the great white hope for succession. I'm fairly sure Barrichello was the last SFW driver pick.

On the other hand, in a very recent interview, Claire says she asked Dad if she should step down and he said no. smiling smiley

Make of that what you will.

Worth noting? Officially, Claire is still only Deputy TP. And SFW still owns the majority shareholding.

Yes, Frank kept 51% for a reason. Claire said it herself, he’ll be at the factory until he dies. Which hopefully is a long way off. There was a nice picture of him with GR63 when he signed.

The last two seasons when we produced absolute horror dog cars (2011 and 2013, although I’m sure the pain is still so fresh in everyone’s mind you don’t need reminding) we went on to produce good (not amazing) chassis for the following season. Maybe the Williams philosophy is not to throw good money after bad and just focus on the next year, try to learn from the mistake. Although that doesn’t explain how they’ve managed to build the worst car on the grid 3 times in this decade alone!

I am not the best speller but thank you for pointing out my weaknesses while I remind you of William's.

, Sam was saying what Patrick head was doing in the team was actually the job of 3 or 4 guys. . . I think that's why Pat performed alittle bit better as he was another old school boss.
All said, I would like to ask Gunk & Sweeper one question:
Put yourself in Williams management clothes and forget about 2018...It's the early 2017 and you can get a technical director...Who do you select?

You answered the question for me in your post, which is very insightful.

'Old school' Pat was indeed a very good fit at Williams, and it is a very amorphous role. Prior to the emergence of Paddy as a candidate, we all thought James Key was arriving . . . and I assumed Pat would stay on.

This would have been my preferred solution.

I think the TD role is still a bit mixed up at Williams and the 'failures' have had very different competencies. Coughlan at McLaren was part of a very hands on technical team, Paddy part of the Toto, Lauda more political triumvirate.

At the former incarnation of Renault, Pat had effectively two TDs as deputies, Bob Bell and Matt Chester. With the return of Bell, it's back to where they were, now working under Prost and Abiteboul instead of Pat and Flav.

Paddy appears to have assumed a more TP role for himself, even duplicating and usurping some of Smedley's area at races and Rod Nelson's track function in testing. Both were put in place by Pat and both have since left. About his role in driver choices, should that even be his area? It's never been a focus of people like Costa, Bell, Fry, James Allison or whoever.

Force India's Andrew Green is probably the lowest profile TD of all time. But even a small team like FI has getting on for 100 aerodynamicists to manage. It's all about using time effectively.

Maybe 2,3 or 4 jobs is still covered at Williams, but another question may be, how many of those should Paddy not be doing?

The customer reviews on Amazon are very disappointing and wouldn't encourage me to buy it. I hope you'll let us know what you think, Oz.

I've read it. It's worth a chuckle or two. Worth a read if you like Kimi. Not really a must have F1 fan book.

Toto Wolff says even a team like Williams cannot be discounted from coming up with a Mercedes-beater next year, amid fears that loopholes in the rules could be key to the Formula 1 battle.

Toto Wolff chatting huge @#$%&. It is highly unlikely there is going to be a silver bullet with front and rear wings. The bargeboards are not different enough either. Wings are wings. Brawn GP did capitalise on creating a phenomenal outwash front wing way ahead of the competition but with standardised end plates the likelihood if this happening again is her slim.

Toto Wolff is talking crazy talk if he thinks Williams can jump from last in 2018 to first in 2019,...LOL @ Wolff.

May I reimnd all the sceptics about the double diffuser? Thats all what it takes when rules change, one genius idea that bends the rules just right not to break them and before the rest can catch up it may be too latesmiling smiley That said, I am only saying this to defend an existance of a "chance" of such occurence on paperwinking smiley there's gonna be a lot of better equipped teams with deeper pockets digging for their holy grail throughout the winter, may the better Indiana Jones winsmiling smiley

The double diffuser was in the wake of much larger aerodynamic regulstions. These are much smaller less significant changes

Re: News and Stuff!

Didn't Williams and Toyota also have a double diffuser at the start of 2009? Brawn success was down to the millions that Honda spent developing that car (under his watch). By the end of 2009 the RBR was faster. VET could have taken that title if he hadn't screwed up so much. Reason Brawn sold the team was that he knew he didn't have a hope of competing with the big boys for a second season. He was just cruising on the legacy of Honda money and well done him. Goes down in history as a team with a 100% constructors record and a load of money in the bank.
