For a bit of fun. Who was most / least impressive over the season?

1. HAM - Pretty much flawless. Kept his head even when not fastest.
2. ALO - Got way more out of that car than he should have
3. LEC - Amazing debut year in my view
4. GAS - Fast and not many errors
5. HUL - Unlucky on many occasions but super quick
6. RIK - Showed his class and mainly let down by the car
7. VER - Impressive speed. Only let down immaturity / aggression and sometimes the car.
8. VET - Took wins and despite silly errors, generally had an edge on RAI. I believe ALO or HAM would have taken the title in that car.
9. SAI - Some really good race drives
10. SIR - Maybe controversial but he took an awful car in his first year and rarely binned it. Plus, won quali battle with STR.

Then all the rest I rate about the same. Likes of RAI / BOT / OCO / PER etc.

Wooden spoon goes to ERI / HAR and VAN. None of them showed well enough to stay in F1.

You stole it from me as I thought about a similar thread with abit change, to rate drivers (0-10) up&down the grid:

HAM: 10: You can't expect more from a driver.Always on top form, no mistakes through that close battle.

BOT: 5: For a couple of races he was there, but most drivers can do it.His results and how he accepted to go for 2nd driver role, the way that even Massa didn't, made me wish there was a change in their lineup sooner.

VET: 5: He's so up & down. For the second year in a row he threw away the title by his mistakes and miscalculations.

RAI: 7: His best season in years but even this year there were alot of races when he was just slow.

VER: 8: Great form after a few stupid races earlier.

RIC: 5: He got destroyed by Max from Canada.

HUL: 8
SAI: 7
PER: 7
OCO: 7
GRO: 4
KMAG: 4
GAS: 8
HAR: 4
LEC: 9
ERI: 5
ALO: 10
VAN: 4
STR: 6
SIR: 6

Agree with most of that, so I'll just list the comments.

Very disappointed with Vettel, would fail to make my top ten for lack of effort. He appears to think he just needs to turn up to win. Don't know if you saw that docu about Rosberg. He analysed everything . . . even stopped cycling to lose a few grammes of muscle fat which might cost him a few thousandths in qualy. He was manic. In the end he got a couple of breaks, but nothing like a superior car for half a season.

Hulk did make a few errors this year, so in my book he and Perez are still level pegging. And once again, Perez is the only midfield driver to get on the podium.

I have a feeling Sainz and Gasly can mature into very good drivers, so I'm worried about Carlos going to McLaren. It's been a graveyard for young talent recently.

I could spend the rest of December analysing this, so I'll cut to the chase...

HAM doesn't even need explaining
LEC car was a lot better but he took it to positions it had no right to be in
RAI rejuvenated, win and pole, could have been more.
ALO McLaren would have (will?) struggle to beat us without him
VER just needs to calm down (and a more robust car)
RIC still rate him as highly as VER but dipped after Renault announcement.
VET terrible season, like Kimi circa 2009, but still the closest competitor.
HUL unglamorously reliable, would be a good replacement for Bottas.
OCO clearly got something and showed well against under-rated Perez.
MAG to be controversial, but he proved himself this year. Just needs to stop the crap.

I'm also inclined to cut him some slack, certainly for character. This was the first time he had a second season with the same team, having been p*$$ed off and laid off at both McLaren and Renault. By comparison, Kvyat was treated far better.

11/10 Hamilton - Dominant. Implacable.

10 Alonso - Usual self, now with a dejected sense of humor.

09 Leclerc - Impressive.

08 Ricciardo - Unlucky. And unmotivated.

08 Verstappen - should be higher but I don't like him.

07 Hulkenberg - Has recurrent dream about following an alluring podium-shaped woman who beckons him to come closer. She spreads her arms to embrace him and... he wakes up.

07 Vettel - Disappointing.

07 Raikkonen - Still refreshingly taciturn. And won a race! Lovely.

06 Bottas - No.2 in Mercedes still better than being No.1 in Williams. No match for HAM.

06 Perez - Solid but never top shelf. Force Stroll wise to keep him.

06 Ocon - Fighty. Extra points for Brazil.

06 Gasley - stats say he was OK. Had to google it.

The rest... meh

Stroll and Sirotkin were not the worse. I'd score them as 4/10 driving a car worth 0/10 on a good day.

Vandoorne, Hartley come to mind as especially useless this season. Both out. Best of luck to them.
