Round 2. Jan 12. Marrakech.

Well, it helps to pass the winter for me and Round 1 wasn't bad.

I hope they've sorted out the penalty sillies - that's what's wrong with F1. Certainly Massa's promising debut was pretty much spoiled.

Practise was largely rained off in Riyadh so the cars may be better sorted for this round and the pecking order could change.

Olly Rowland was a star in Saudi - interesting to see if this continues. Pascal Wehrlein joins the series. Williams will hope for better things from Jaguar.

Schedule:

SATURDAY 12th

(UK TIMES)

7.00 - FP1 (45 Mins) - LIVE YOUTUBE/FACEBOOK
9.00 - FP2 (30 Mins) - LIVE YOUTUBE/FACEBOOK
11.00 - QP - LIVE EUROSPORT/YOUTUBE

15.00 - Race (45 Mins)

Also on BBC, iPlayer and Red Button, BT Sport

In Germany, all the championship will be shown on RTD & ZDF.
In Italy, all the championship will be shown on Mediaset Italia 1/2.

Watched practice and Q and getting up to speed a little on technology and drivers. It does reward a little more study.

The extra running this weekend has clearly helped a few teams and you see the advantage of the experienced E-guys like Vergne, Buemi, Bird and so on. Rookie Massa not so composed this weekend, Werhlein quick straight away. Paffet still struggling and Vandoorne still without any luck.

The coverage is good - very easy to follow the guys through the turns in Q.

Not a pretty track but some shots of Marrakech where I'm going for my Easter hols.

Having just watched the Marrakech race it's got to be said Formula E really wipes the floor with Formula 1 in terms of racing, and the whole fan experience. I was following qualifying on Facebook, and to have Jean-Eric Vergne join the online chat about a minute after finishing his run was pretty awesome.

'Custard' a popular winner after both BMWs take themselves out of a certain 1 - 2.

Toto and Suzie both enjoying the desert sun this weekend, but both their teams disappointing.

Interesting facts: It takes 13 secs to change 4 wheels on an e-car. No one in Marrakech is allowed to build anything taller than a palm tree. smiling smiley

Sure, the drivers can and do make more of a difference here. I'm not impressed by Piquet Jnr . . . as quali shows the Jag is one of the faster cars. The podium guys, 1,2 & 3 started 10th, 8th and pole. And Vergne finished 5th after being dead last on lap one. You have to be able to race wheel to wheel and nose to tail.

It's getting good. No longer so much Mickey Mouse tracks. It's almost like all the guys who should be in F1 but didn't have the money.

I enjoyed it. I always thought Sam Bird deserved a season in F1.

Good evening,

For the last couple of years FE had been available to me in the UK on a Freeview channel, ITV 4.

This year I can't get it; I don't have the capacity to view TV via streaming and the BBC Red Button as an over the air broadcast is just a blank screen.

So why the step backwards?

Am I just an old fogey or are the rights owners just as much out of touch as the F1 owners?

F1 wants too much money and FE thinks that we will pay to stream, pay someone to provide the capability to stream and someone to connect out streaming device to our display device.

Bye

The stupid thing about it is 24hrs has gone and they prevent any replay of the race anywhere on the internet (unlike last race)...Getting tired of stopping myself from reading the results!

Have you tried any VPN/Hide Your IP type software, Mehryar?

I used to watch BBC iPlayer abroad when I Was there with a thing called Hotspot Shield.

There's also Filmon.com for foreign TV . . . but can't see anything that would show Formula E so far.

Some IP hiding software should get you into You Tube.

Did you try Facebook or Eurosport?

Good evening,

Am I just an old fogey . . .

Ian

Maybe your PC or TV is slightly ancient?

Do you have a smartphone?

If you can get the net on your smartphone, you can watch on YouTube or iPlayer . . . you can then cast from google chrome to your big screen with Chromecast, providing the TV has an hdmi port for such a device

Years ago there was talk of split double rear wings in F1. The solution was balked at by everyone. FE seems to have done a fairly good job with it. Gen 2 cars appear much better & car swaps are also gone. I think fan following will increase fairly rapidly.

They are doing an excellent job of building a fanbase. But most of all, there's a lot of teams and drivers that can compete for the win. It's not hard to see what they are doing right.

The whole Liberty initiative of simplifying engine regs and lowering costs has stalled . . . Steiner at Haas says he won't bother unless Liberty get this sorted. An F1 team defection to FE is not unthinkable. . .

Yeah. I can see that. F1 is already out of date. Big time. Why would Williams not head over to FE? We are getting shat upon on F1. People are generally not buying ICE cars any more. Why would they? F1 is fast becoming a dinosaur.

Currently I have 15GB/month data allowance on a mobile wifi dongle.

This is mobile data, I don't have a landline/fibre and 15GB barely covers Windows update/oracle update/Linux update etc.

And a bit of bike porn; the "gcn network" :-)

Watching anything over mobile data does seem to mean record and watch later and pay a heavy premium!

I think that I get your point, but I am not into streaming, FE took the event away from an easy to use/record channel and assumed that the audience is "connected".

Some of the world is "connnected" in that way, but I, living in the UK where it might be assumed that I am, I am not and have no intent to be. :-)

Way back in the UK a massive amount of effort was put into the changing from black and white T.V. to colour T.V. because it was understood that the change was big.

Before digital, in the U.K. colour T.V. was broadcast as intensity (which would drive a black and white T.V.), red and blue every over line, a PAL delay line would simulate the colour info by passing the signal through a very long piece of wire and green was assumed from the difference.

Now broadcasters assume that the consumer will pay for new hardware, expletive deleted off!

Bye

Ian

For me, FE is like riding a electric trolley. The whizzing sound of and FE car and that of an electic trolley sound so similar. As an old fart growing up during the ICE era, I would try to convince Claire to pack her bags and head over to FE and build her own history.

You get used to the lack of sound after a while . . . but I think the cars should make some electronic sounds at times . . . maybe for attack activation or low power warning, whatever. They have the coloured light gimmicks, why not?

Why FE sucks:

- no best racers in the world will race there insetad of F1 (Like HAM, ALO, VET, VER etc),
- no engine noise which adds to the car speed from for example the onboard cams,
- mostly shitty tracks (street circuits instead of the proper ones),
- gimmicks like fan boost which doesnt matter in the end but is still there and is being looked upon by a lot of people as some kind of a joke.

And why should Williams even consider going to Formula E when things like the new aero rules are in place and the budget cap will be there soon enough? Because we've had one insanely unlucky season?
