Couldn't care less about the filming day. The important thing is to have everything prepared and ready to go on the 1st day of testing. People are making a big fuss out of this but a lot of teams are probably on a super tight schedules right now as well.

Agreed but identifying any niggles before the 18th now
could save loads/hours of valuable test/track time.

Anyway this opportunity has passed so that,s it.

Those niggles of a new f1 car is mostly a thing of the past.It rarely happens these days unless we have a new powerunit or something.
If my memory works well, in last 2-3 years we were doing good amount of laps right from the first day.

Don't understand why some of you think the filming day is not important/useless. It's important to test all systems are working property so when you go testing, you can work on various setups right away.

This is what Max said after today's Reb Bull filming day.

“Of course today is a filming day, so there’s a limited amount you can get out of it, but it’s really important to have a day like this, before you go to the official tests,” he added. “You get a first impression and you see if there any little issues with the car or engine. Luckily we didn’t have any and it’s very positive that we had this opportunity. Now we can go testing properly, we’ll see what we can get out of that and we’ll be able to understand the car and the engine a bit better. But so far, so good.”

Without this filming day running, Williams will be spending at least the morning or even afternoon of the first test to check out their systems/car before they can do any real setup works, and this is if they don't discover any issue. And if there's issue that needs fixing ….

Yea, let's worry about 20 lost laps on the filming day when we will be doing (hopefully) 600-800 (or even more) during testing and even if we will sit in the garage come monday morning there is still more than enough time to compensate for that especially if there wont be any major issues.

Red Bull might have been worried about their Hondas but fortunetely we will be strapping a Mercedes donkey on our back.

This is just a small bump on the road and is being exaggerated so much on various forums, reddit etc...

Sure the filming day is useless, pre-season testing is useless, lets just keep our cars in the factory until the first qualifying session and we will be fine.

Based on our recent race records, we always come up with the best car in the field, we can turn up and win straight away.

Even one more lap is important, no one is questioning about it.
But is it a big deal? No!
Is it that much important to monitor small system issues? I don't think so, these things don't happen that much these days "unless" you have a new powerunit. So yes it's important for RBR, but for us? not that much...Those issues can happen anyday just like last few years we have seen in testings.Car issues happen, but quite interesting they happen on later days more often.

Yeap, why worry now, they'll sort it out during testing ... while the other teams are progressing forward.

You can prevent @#$%& from happening. Next best thing just be transparent don't make an excuse. Flow Viz while you are trying to sort you car out mid season is not flattering.

I mean I'm not sat here saying it's okay they missed the filming day I'm on the fence. Yeah it would have been great to have some initial information on the car for the engineers and get a feel for any issues but Williams has bigger fish to fry such as making sure this car isn't a turd. It hardly matters if it's unreliable, if it's unreliable and undriveable. If they pushed the deadlines so close for the benefit of performance then good on them, I hope the gamble pays off.

If we'd really understood the issues with the FW41 I dont see why we shouldnt start with a good car. I still think the new regulation changes could be a blessing in disguise for us.

I think it's important to finish the car to its rightful spec. If they need their last prep hours for that, so be it. They were working on FW42 for a whole year now and will finish come weekend to go testing on Monday.

Not the first time Williams hit the track running on day 1 of testing. They even unveiled the car in the morning before testing started IIRC.

Here's hoping the fuel pump does not need exchanging on day 1 testing this time around...

It's impossible to know, without more information, what the cancellation means.

Is it due to a simple production delay? Did some other problem emerge that needed to be solved before they could put the car together? Was a decision made that other more valuable work could be done with that time instead?

If it's one of the first two possibilities, let's hope they get it done or straightened out.

If it's the third, let's hope that some unforeseen issues--problems that could have been solved prior to testing had they assembled the car and run it Saturday--do not emerge to stop them from getting on with testing as planned.

Paddy has done this a long time. Let's trust that, if this is the result of a decision, that that decision was the best one possible based upon available information. Either way, the team that finished fourth last year (Renault) is in the same position. Sometimes you can't stop @#$%& from happening.

I do wish to add that those of you here dismissing the idea that this is any kind of bad news because we are not, as is Red Bull, working with a new power unit, have obviously not heard the news that the Mercedes PU is all new for this year. They have obviously tested it on the dyno and they gave it a run in their own cars today, but it may still present some surprises for Williams when they give it a go in theirs.

I imagine they can just reschedule that filming day - they have a set amount of time available to them. So they will probably just do it between tests or before Australia- something like that. They haven’t lost that extra time - just postponed it. Not such a big deal IMO.
