Yes it really, excuse my French, @#$%& me off when you look at the title of that story "Pray for Williams" I am so fed up with every section of the media reporting the situation with Williams like the team is dead and buried and should just pack up and go away. Did we hear stories of a similar tone when McLaren were having all their Honda problems. Not that I can remember what was said exactly but I recollection has it as been far more supportive.
Yes they missed the first two days of testing which was not a great way to start the year and yes there are questions over what went wrong and where any fault should lie. But the way the media has reacted is pathetic. It was like they have a god given right to know every detail.

I wish the media would just accept the explanation knowing full well that they will never know the true story. Story writing stories with titles like this one.

For me the fans who were present on the day the FW42 ran for the first time showed what a special place the Williams team has with applause been heard on the TV coverage. They were happy that Williams was back regardless of the story behind the lead-up to this day.

I couldn't agree more with all of this.

I trust that Claire is sharing with the media what she can without doing further damage to the team. If she is covering her own butt, or someone else's, or that of the team as a whole, fine. Much more important than falling on swords or hanging people out to dry is sorting out the problems and fixing them. Another opportunity to arrive to the start of testing on time will not come around again for another year, so figuring out exactly what went wrong there--and talking about it publicly--is hardly job number one at present.

As for differences in the way the media have treated Williams over the past year or so in comparison with how it treats other teams, McLaren, for example... the truth is that Williams has gone through much less turmoil than has McLaren the past decade, the latter's troubles having received extensive coverage in the media. Both have had three different engine suppliers over that period, but McLaren has undergone a change in controlling ownership and has had three changes to its team principal (Dennis-Whitmarsh-Dennis-Brown) while Williams has been stable in those areas (Claire taking on the role of DP).

Over the past five years, McLaren have finished above Williams in the team standings precisely once (last year, produced by heroic driving by Alonso that still left them far behind the other two teams powered by Renault). When they were both powered by Mercedes (in 2014), Williams finished two spots above them. McLaren deflected from its own poor performance for several years after that by blaming it all on Honda, but we knew, or should have known, better.

In any case, the media looks to generate interest in any way it can. Spreading the idea that a once dominant team is now stumbling toward total demise is an effective way to do so. If they have been a bit less apocalyptic in their assessments of McLaren's future over the past few years, it is probably mostly due to their still significant achievements outside of F1 (their still very successful road car company). I don't think either Williams or its supporters ought to take the present dark portrayal the media is offering of their prospects all that seriously. Yes, last year's car was uncompetitive and the delayed arrival at testing this year was a bad way to start off. There is also so much promising about Williams right now (exciting new driver lineup, positive words from those drivers about the feel of the car from very early testing, a committed new title-sponsor, etc.). There is certainly enough positive going on that we should all stay solidly behind the team and its management and see what happens. Williams may not see itself back on top immediately, but they are far from finished either. That's just hype where the media thinks it can create it.

What will happen? Nothing.
Stop trolling.

I am NOT trolling Mehryar I really think if Williams finish lower than 7th in the 2019 WCC something bad might happen to them, unfortunately (Sm17)

So now with Paddy leaving the team this thread makes some sense....I knew I was onto something when I started this thread, now it all makes sense.
