Haha Whitey... I agree,if webber finished without a problem, he should beat Senna.

I think Mark might be a good bet, but only because his odds a so low. Might be worth a punt, but a lot has to go right for him to win.

Like, if Seb finished without a problem, he will beat Mark. Jenson and Lewis will be big problems, and I'd also be hoping for a wet pace car start...

Come to think of it, save your money, don't put it on Mark.

Red bull will be running two different exhausts in practice. Vettel old, Webber new.

Not really sure what to make of the final paragraph but I'll leave it to others to put tinfoil hats on for now.

Vets has not therefore any change would presumably be most welcoming from vets

My question is why go to a slower car to go faster? Seb grabbing all the straws he can find now rather than letting the team develop faster parts he is sending them backwards!! Tool of the week award for Seb

I think Seb is clutching at straws... But then we thought that when he complained about his chassis too. He ended up being correct about that one though.

Seb didn't get to test the new exhaust pre-season for more than a couple of laps due to a gearbox failure and then an off.

The team say they expect the exhaust on Webbers car (which has been updated slightly from Malaysia) to be the faster of the two, although they do say that they are not entirely sure that this will be the case. Clearly the data is not that clear. Exhaust plume behavior is apparently very hard to simulate, even with CFD.

Mark was also testing a new rear wing with a central pillar used to control the DRS from underneath.

Hmm, not looking good here. You have to wonder if Red Bull can make it through Q1. Plus, with Vettel's built in 3 second a lap advantage over Webber, it's looking like Webber will spend the race dicing with Narain and probably lose out in the end.

Though I must admit being a bit surprised to see Mark's mentor in first after the 2nd practice.

Me? Wha? Well, today he was pretty poo. Though, him going out for a later run seemed to hurt today, if there truly was a 6 tenths dropoff for RB8 between Marks Q2 and Q3 laps due to track temp, then that might explain Seb not getting through to the top 10.

if the track temp caused such a drop off in lap time then how was it that it affected vettel in Q2 and not webber who actually improved in Q2?

Who knows. We know between Marks Q2 run (a), and his Q3 (b) run the track apparently lost temperature and significantly effected our cars ability to generate tyre temp; Mark said as much and explains his Q3 time. Since Sebs final Q2 run was between a and b, it seems very possible that it might've cost him a top 10 spot, considering how tight it was.

Ofcourse it might not be, perhaps the track got faster after a, and then just catastrophically fell off on his outlap for b or something, but I'm just throwing it out there for thought generation.

LH, was watching live timing and am pretty sure Webber set his Q2 time after Vettel. Your theory goes out the window if the case. Not that it really matters.

I'm pretty sure it was the other way around, Autosport Live commentary confirms Vettel was out after Webber. I wasn't saying this was the case, I was just putting it forward for discussion.

Re: Chinese GP Predicitons

Webbers second q2 run was his fastest. I think the time drop off was due to the second lap on the option. I think MW used second use options in q2 lap 1. These were slow and he did a 36.2

He then went for a fresh set and got the 35.7. I am unsure if Vettel used a fresh set? in any case he could not improve on 36.0.

I am sure Webber used the same set of options in q3 in an effort to save 1 fresh set. This meant he could not better his time. I am sure the track cooled comewhat and time dropped off, but I have an idea it had a lot to do with scrubbed tyres too.

We don't know do we, from what I recall, Mark was on his outlap when most of the people in front of him where on their first flyer in Q3 and it seems to have been reasonably accepted that he lost out to them as the track temps continued to drop.

My original statement was that it's possible that Seb lost out on the top 10 due to a changing track surface, he was within half a tenth of P10 so 3/5 degree change wasn't required for that imo.

Seb admitted he made a mistake in Q2 and wasn't quick enough.

Fair enough - he 'fessed up and top 11 were pretty close, so not much room for error.

whatever loud, all history now. webber did state that the track conditions had changed markedly when he came to the crunch lap in Q3. that plus his pushing too hard when his tyres were not at optimum.

bahrein will be different then we will see a better idea re quali.
