So how does this work I don't get it???

The Red Bull Racing RB8 floor has been declared illegal by the FIA so the car has been illegal since the Bahrain GP so why do Red Bull not lose all their points that they have got since the Bahrain GP if they have been winning points with an illegal car why do they get to keep all their points that they got while using an illegal car.

I don't get it can someone explain why they get to keep their points if their car has been illegal?

I must admit you make a valid point, Ferrari got away with worse for years.

The car was ruled legal at the three races, the rule has been clarified now and everything goes on as per normal. For the race results to be adjusted the FIA has to find the cars breaching the regs on the weekend, or someone needs to lodge a protest. Neither of those things happened.

Yep - AS LH says, the cars passed scrutineering checks at each race since Bahrain so were deemed legal at the time.

Additionally no team protested the design. The FIA have now issued a clarification of the ruling to the teams. Whilst it obviously won't happen, there is nothing stopping Red Bull turning up at Canada with an unchanged floor and make the stewards rule on the deign during scrutineering.

The process of rule clarifications issued to the teams is quite common - although usually not quite so high profile.

The stewards in Melbourne 2011 measured the Saubers and found them in contravention of a regulation and thus had no option to DQ the cars.

It is only the stewards of a race that can do this.

To clarify the difference, the following from Joe Saward may be useful:-

The Red Bull has not been declared illegal. The FIA Technical department has said that in its opinion the floor does not meet the rules as it interprets them. If red Bull wishes to go on using the floor they can. They would then be reported to the FIA Stewards, who would rule on whether the opinion of the FIA Technical department was correct or not. If Red Bull did not agree with that, it could appeal to the FIA International Court of Appeal. ( [joesaward.wordpress.com] )
