In that case, look for most - if not all - of the cars going into Q3 to do: 1 warm up lap/ 1 'hot' lap/ 1 cool down lap & then park it!

This will NOT make for a dramatic 'shoot out' for the pole!

Maybe Indy Andy, but poles carry weight and someone will brake from the form and make it challenging.

wouldn't it affect teams which finish on 9 or 10th position? because they will be on used tyres, while the teams immediately behind them will be using the fresh ones.

I think that one thing remains constant form previous years...It is better to pit later than sooner. Therefore, turning your best Q3 laps on the tire that will last longer(probably the harder tire) could be the right strategy. This would allow a driver to turn faster laps on a tire that is still good while the driver on the other tire turns slower laps on his ratty tire. Then finish on the grippier but less durable tire when the car is lighter.

As usual all this does is keep the cars from being as fast as they could be. Sort of runs contrary to the idea of racing doesn't it?

sadly racing is secondary. it's about entertainment nowdays.

F1 has become one of those reality series...

change the points system every 8yrs or so, refuelling every other decade, and make passing less possible, with a bigger chance of political warfare.
