Scuderia Ferrari : Evolutionary Revolution

The Legend
By Ernesto Nigro
October 21 2009
The 2009 Formula One season draws to a close with one final contest left. It has been an interesting season for the Scuderia. The struggles, challenges and disappointments have been well documented over the course of the last few months.

The heartbeat of Scuderia Ferrari, its beloved Tifosi are left asking the question, "What now?"  We are left with many other questions BUT above all hope and promise that next season may see the team return to its winning ways.

Perhaps the legendary team's historical climb to greatness from humble beginnings and its status as the underdog that became a champion that grew into a legend has had many fans set unrealistic expectations over time.  Many of us who have been following Formula One for decades, remember a time when Ferrari were a struggling and less than successful competitor.  It is this memory that many fear has returned to be the current status quo.  2009 was a trying year for both team and fans.  After the two previous seasons which saw Ferrari win the WDC and finish runner-up, this season has left us scratching our heads.  As reported in previous articles, the introduction of KERS and its deployment and reliability issues, the inability to adapt or foresee the legality or loop-hole to use the new DDD diffuser design, Massa's injury and absence for most of the season etc... Not to mention sloppy race strategies...the list goes on.  It is clear that the dominant Ferrari team of yesteryear is not the same as the team we cheer for on race day.

So "What now?"  Now is the time for hope.  Now is the time for the army of true Tifosi to stand arm in arm and show their true colors.  Now is when we wish all the bandwagoners well when they jump off.  Now is the time when we switch from evolution to revolution.

Ferrari has gone through many changes over the last few years but it has maintained it's commitment to win.  It may not be clear but it can be seen through the fog.  Ferrari have decided to forego development on this season's challenger after the first half of the season saw Brawn GP accumulate what became a championship winning lead.  Efforts have been switched to next year's challenger by mid-season.  Alonso joins the team in favor of Kimi, who has been quick but inconsistent or perhaps unmotivated.  The colder, quieter demeanor has been swapped for the fiery temper of a two time world champion whose personality may be a better fit with the team.  While this move may back-fire and is in no way a guarantee of success, it is at least proof that an effort is being made to better the team.  New sponsors have come onboard; Fisichella has joined as a third driver bringing his experience and passion for the team as an additional asset.

As Ferrari embark on a journey to find themselves in the winner's circle again, so too do the Tifosi.  With the promise of change and light of hope, we look forward to the evolution of the team and the revolution of the legend.

Re: Scuderia Ferrari : Evolutionary Revolution
why is this posted in the Off-Topic section? Not serious enough?

i just hope the decision to shift focus mid-way to 2010 car will make next season car competitive enough to fight for podiums and wins

and assuming Massa will be as good before his accident, Ferrari should have a much bigger chance next season

on drivers line up Ferrari is ahead of McLaren and Brawn but even with Red Bull, they haven't decided their drivers line up
