Still hopeful

After hinting that Ferrari may be ready for victory at Montreal, the target now appears to have shifted to Silverstone. Both Fernando Alonso and Team Principal Stefano Domenicali agree that the British GP will be crucial for the team’s season and championship aspirations.

Ferrari has a major aerodynamic upgrade planned for Silverstone and is hopeful this may be the answer to counter rivals Red Bull and Mclaren. Indeed, after Sebastian Vettel’s stellar Monaco victory, the team will need all the help and then some, to crawl back into title contention.

Acknowledging this, Alonso has said, "Clearly the gap in the championship is widening all the time; we can do the maths, but neither myself nor the team are used to throwing in the towel. We need to win three races and he mustn't score. I think that's more or less the calculation which I can do now.”

"So at the moment, we will try to improve the car, race by race, in order to take the maximum every weekend. Victory for us is maybe optimistic so we need to be realistic and start fighting for podiums in Canada and Valencia and then we will see how the championship develops, because the distance now is too much.”

Meanwhile, Domenicali echoing this sentiment, believes that things can turn around fast in Ferrari’s favor. "For sure it is a big gap no doubt, but you know how quickly you turn around things," he said. "It is not easy no doubt, but if we have a good result in the next couple of races then something may also happen to them, so if you stay concentrated and you put a little bit of pressure on, then we will see.”
