de la Rosa leaves McLaren for Sauber
By Karl King
January 21 2010
It was announced on Tuesday that Pedro de la Rosa is to join the confusingly named BMW Sauber F1 Team as a race driver for 2010 after seven years at McLaren as test and reserve driver. Many believe he came close to the race drive here in 2007 but it was never to be, and after 7 years without a full-time race drive, the 38 year old has been called back in to action.

de la Rosa spoke of his delight after his roles were reduced at McLaren in recent years:  “I always firmly believed I would be given another chance as a team driver. Since the number of test drives were radically reduced, this was what I was working towards. I’m really excited about the season with Peter Sauber’s team, which has been a solid fixture in Formula One ever since 1993.”

Martin Whitmarsh sent the team's good wishes, "He's been a fantastic team player for the past seven years, has contributed a huge amount to our successes in that time, and will remembered by all at Vodafone McLaren Mercedes as not only an esteemed colleague but also as a good friend."
