Jenson a good move for Ferrari?

Jenson, join us?
By Billy Baxter
June 1 2011
Jenson button sparked a media frenzy about four days ago, saying to the guardian newspaper that "As a kid, you are very excited about racing for the red team," he told Britain's Guardian newspaper during the Monaco GP weekend, "There were three teams. I always wanted to race for when I was growing up - Ferrari, McLaren and Williams. I've got to drive for two of them which, as an eight-year old kid, I didn't expect to do. Ferrari is obviously a team I haven't raced for." McLaren Addicts review if this partnership would work...

Jenson Button is usually a quiet man, keeping his opinions to himself, although Button has unusually thrown a spanner in the works for the McLaren team. These comments will obviously cause some confusion in the Woking team, as Button was recently quoted as saying that he was happy at the team and a move was not on the cards.

Jenson was not put off by joining the McLaren team, which everybody thought was a bad move, seeing as the team was focussed on Hamilton. Jenson sees this as a challenge and he will not be put off by joining the Ferrari team alongside the 5 year contract Alonso.

Jenson's driving style is very smooth. This guy can use tyres to his advantage and on many occasions we have seen him win races due to his efficiency with his tyre wear and tyre choices.

Ferrari is obviously struggling this year and has been for a number of years. They do however pick up the pace during the season, never giving up the illustrious prize. Alonso is consistent and is towing that car around the circuit in positions it shouldn't really be in. Jenson would be able to conserve his tyres and make the Ferrari work in a different way to how Alonso does.

But, doesn't Jenson do this now at McLaren?

He has taken some risks this season and stayed out, to see if his unique style can help him get ahead of the pack. It has failed miserably at some of the races, but he has still managed to finish the race on a set of tyres that should have degraded to the core.

Personally, I see Lewis moving to Ferrari. Lewis has been more critical of the team as of late and maybe the McLaren team are swaying more towards Jenson's relaxed style around the garage. Lewis's contract ends at the end of this year, but Martin Whitmarsh and recently said that he thinks it’s only a matter of time before a new deal is signed between Lewis and the team. Let's not forget that rumours started at the beginning of this season when Hamilton was critical of the pre season testing and a move to Red Bull seemed imminent.

In conclusion, I think Jenson's comments were just him saying that he always dreamed of joining Ferrari, but he has managed to race for two of the three teams he dreamed of racing for, which he is happy with. I doubt that this Ferrari move will develop any further.

I suppose, but he took a pay cut to become a World Champion? tongue sticking out smiley Not that he knew that at the time, surely he just wants to drive for a team that can help him win races...

He would be crazy to do this. He has a big future at Mclaren and they are always there or therabouts. I guess the lure of being a Ferrari driver is pretty big but he would never get the equality he gets at Mclaren.

Button could be WDC again at Mclaren if he stays for the next 4 or so years. Maybe he's not the out and out fastest or hardest racer but he's one of the best and brings a massive amount to the team.

I agree completely. I don't see lewis staying forever, so Jenson would take over the main role of the team, which I think would be good for both him and the team.
