Jenson wins in Canada
McLaren must have looked at the race on Lap 8 when Hamilton crashed into Jenson Button and thought, "that’s it, race over". They may have continued to think this when Jenson had to then come into the pits for a drive through. They may have thought this after Button got a puncture, whilst jostling with Fernando Alonso into Turn 3 after Alonso exited the pits and did not yield to Button who had the inside line into the corner.
But NO! Button said, "I am going to win this race", he drove for pure victory and it was great to see Button, doing what he is great at.
It was unsure whether Jenson would get any penalty for his collision with two time world champion Fernando Alonso after the race. Jenson did not look the slight bit worried on the podium. I think we all knew it was a racing incident and it was confirmed this morning when the stewards said that it WAS a racing incident and that Button would keep his winning position. This was thanks to two-time Formula 1 Champion Emerson Fittipaldi who was also a steward for the event on Sunday.
Jenson has shown himself as a great wet runner and even claimed his first victory in the wet at the Hunaroring, 2006 and this win confirms Jenson's ability to race in the wet.
Button followed Vettel and pushed him to the ragged edge, Vettel finally showed he was human and man at error at turn six, allowing the Brit to pass on the last lap. The McLaren team erupted into cheers and applause, with Lewis Hamilton joining in the celebration.
Hamilton did not receive a penalty for his collision into Jenson.
Let's home for some more exciting races to come and more wins for the McLaren team.
