Review: F1 to join SKY SPORTS
By McDafthead
August 5 2011
F1 fans in the UK finally heard last week that the cash gusling Bernie Ecclestone has made a deal with SKY and the BBC to have 45 million pound deal with SKY and a 10 million a year with the BBC.

This will mean that half of the races will be shown on the BBC and half on SKY, with sky offering HD, interactive red button, practice, qualifying and race sessions for a price. That may sound appetising, however is it?

I for one have never been a sports person. I do not enjoy football, Cricket, Golf, Rugby or much else and F1 has been my only sport that I have supported for years. I was ridiculed for years for not enjoying football (I still am today) but something about F1 keeps me ticking. I understand it. I love the racing. I love the cars. I love the free to air...................... oh wait.

Sky are offering Sky Sports x 5 channels for £20.25 a month. So on top of your normal TV £19.50 a month, Broadband, £12.50, Phone £5 + line rental £12.95 you are looking at a grand total of 70.92 and that’s if you haven’t got Multiroom/Movies pack etc... that’s the BASIC!

I will NOT be paying this sort of money. I do not care if football etc is included I WILL NOT WATCH IT! I only want to watch F1... nothing else, so why am I paying £20.95 a month for possibly one race a month at the least? So in theory I should only be paying £4.19 per month (that’s dividing the cost by the five sports covered on the Sky Sports Channel)

But SKY doesn’t seem to understand this? YOU MUST WATCH ALL OF THE SPORTS!

SKY will help F1 bring in the revenue, but this will put off a lot of diehard fans. I class myself as a diehard fan. I run a site dedicated to a team; however I do not have the money, in this economic climate to be paying out for a sports package I don’t really need.

HOWEVER I feel that if SKY were to offer a pay per viewing service then I may change my mind. How about, £1 per race weekend? You can call up and have F1 activated on your box, therefore that’s all you can watch. It would be perfect. Many F1 fans would pay a quid to watch F1, compared to the £20.95 package for a month. £1 x 600 million viewers = 600 million quid! Well justified.

So SKY if you are reading this, the ADDICTS have spoken, we want you to offer us £1 per race weekend view... you offer this, or you lose our custom... goodbye F1, it has been a good run, but I am afraid money has ruined the sport and the love of racing.

Have your say!

RuralVic gave us this web address for a petition for stopping Pay-to-view air [epetitions.direct.gov.uk] It has a closing date of the 04/08/2011, however it still allows you to post a petition.

Up yours Sky, you'll never have a penny out of me. I've tuned my sat dish to Astra 1 and RTL and will watch the races live for free with 5 Live for commentary.

BBC should hang their heads in shame. Should have gone to C4 who would have done a good job.

Im still so angry about this mate! I bet this was put into BBC's contract to say that after 3 years it would be split with SKY... I bet once this happens next year, Bernie will annouce his retirement!
