Scalextric to produce Brawn GP slot cars

The 08 car in 09 colours

Scalextric will be making their first foray in to modelling the new generation of Formula One cars with Brawn GP, providing multiple versions of the stunning BGP 001 race car driven by Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello.

The global licensing deal will see Scalextric developing a Brawn GP BGP001 slot car at 1:64 and 1:32 scales, with the smaller scale model becoming available before Christmas. The larger 1:32 model will be released in early 2010. Both will be available individually or as part of a Grand Prix set.

The smaller scale Brawn GP cars will be joining other famous names at Scalextric, including McLaren Mercedes, James Bond, The Simpsons and Disney/Pixar’s Cars.

Silverstone, home of the 2009 British Grand Prix, hosted the team’s first Scalextric challenge yesterday as Jenson Button tried out the prototype 1:32 model with BBC Radio 4 Today Programme presenter Arlo White. A video of the head to head challenge can be found at the BBC website by following this link.

It is currently unclear if an extra magnet will be placed at the back of the model in order to better replicate the rear diffuser of the Brawn GP car.
