A QUIET CLOSE TO 2011

Few surprises arose as Mercedes GP finished this year’s Formula One season. The team maintained its fourth place status well ahead of its mid field opponents, but were still considerately behind the on track pace of Red Bull, McLaren, and Ferrari.

All in all the team ended the campaign in the exact position the car was capable of achieving.

Mercedes fans were exposed to both delights and let downs. All season we expected and were told upgrades would close the gap to the leaders, but as it unfolded those advancements never seemed to live up to the hype.  We did however enjoy a few good finishes when our drivers outscored any of the top team drivers. Sadly, it was not often enough and generally acheived through attrition.

Michael avoided being nearly doubled up in points by his younger team mate this season and managed to pull within 5 points going into the last race of the season. Nico unceremoniously held his ground and finished 13 points ahead in the team mate war.

Most of the current post season news such as changing the name from MGP to the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team and the late introduction of the 2012 F1W03 in Catalunya on February 21 is covered on our message board.

We will keep our ears perked in an effort to bring you news items as they occur during the off season.

Inclosing all of us here at MGP enjoyed presenting and hearing opinions over the last year. We hope you will continue to give us your support.

Unfortunately, there is a distinct lack of interest as we aren't racing other teams, we are only racing ourselves most of the time. Looking at the final points score, we can't compete with the top three and are way ahead of the others.

Something has to change dramatically. I hope it does.
