THE OFF SEASON

Finding valid information about F1 just after New Year’s is nearly impossible. Soon the teams will be back at it at full strength and new rumours and facts will once again flood all the sites.

Mercedes will introduce their new car and we are once again be back to block one wondering if the new car will provide the goods it needs to be more competitive.

So far things sound positive. We started early on the 2012 car; both Michael and Nico finished stronger than they began. New rules seem a bit clearer and no real monkey wrenches are looming to thwart forward progress in general.

The new blocking rule (article 20.3) was most likely brought on by the Michael and Lewis duel during the Italian GP last year but seems to leave us requiring more interpretive clarification; I doubt we’ve heard the end of the greyness of it.

The diffuser rule change may give us a tighter grouped field in 2012 which could lead the way to determining both a team and driver championships later in the season than in 2011.

We’ll also see the return of another previous world champion in Kimi giving us a record 6 in the line-up. I personally wish him success and I’m sure Renault feels the same.

I’m a little saddened we haven’t seen a faster and more information surrounding Kubica’s recovery. His talent and excitement during every outing has been missed and would be a welcome return, so get well Robert!

Will Rubens see his 20th season ? One minute it looks as though we will and in the next maybe not. Well at any rate it looks like familiar F1 names (Sutil/Senna) will pilot the other Williams. Speaking of Williams, it allows us to say good bye to Patrick Head and their use of the Cosworth engine.

Toro Rosso did some serious house cleaning in their driver’s department and is back on our site through the courtesy of Indy Andy. Welcome aboard.

As far as Red Bull, McLaren, and Ferrari are concerned we here a MGP wish you luck but not as much as last year.

In closing I enjoy the Holiday’s immensely and hope all of you who read this had great ones, but the lack of F1is starting to get under my skin and the new season can’t come too soon.
