Hoping to survive
As a fan of the sport I find this kind of treatment of the team saddening. I wish that I had paid more attention to the demise of the Prost team in order to weigh up reaction, but it would have been interesting to note Pitpass’s reaction to that little episode in comparison to this.
Whenever an article covering the latest events for Arrows appears on Pitpass the editorial is very much one of someone who couldn’t care less, and would be happy to see the team go. Does the site forget that there are people’s livelihoods at stake here, not alone with the gradual erosion of the sport down to twenty cars. Arrows is only fighting for it’s survival - how it goes about it is the team management’s decision and not ours, and it is certainly not our place to judge what they do and how they do it. But, hey, that’s journalism for you!
The site poll on Pitpass is an interesting one as it shows a broad spread of views. The results as of lunchtime today (Wednesday 25th September) as are follows:
Once again there’s speculation as to whether Arrows will take part in this weekend’s United States GP, but do you care?
No, I’m sick to death of the whole sad saga -34%
Yes, I want to see Arrows continue - 9%
No, Arrows are damaging the sport - 6%
Yes, F1 needs 11 teams, and more! - 25%
Yes, but under new management - 24%
Now, for me, the last two options are the most interesting, because they reflect the view of an F1 fan, as opposed to someone loyal to the Pitpass site. Over half the vote is concentrated here and demonstrates that Pitpass’s attitude to the sport, and Arrows, is not in keeping with the general view of the fans or the paddock. Lest the news site forgets, the paddock have put their backing behind Tom Walkinshaw’s effort to keep his team going.
This site would option for option two of the poll (obviously), and would urge site visitors to visit the homepage of Pitpass at www.pitpass.com to cast their own vote.
