A ‘bl**dy good’ deal to save the Arrows team

Just maybe
By Huw Alban October 29 2002
Is there life in this team? Well, if you read the popular press and other Internet media outlets, and believe what they say, then the outlook is bleak. However, this site’s forum is being used by Arrows staff to swap news and, according to them, things are simmering nicely.
First things first – this site’s authors are chuffed in the highest order that Arrows team staff are coming here to greet each other and exchange news and views. It is also providing the many fans that visit this site with much hope for the future, and serving well to dispel the many myths being circulated by the popular press. You want to know what the team staff are being told, you want to know the ‘real picture’ with regard to Arrows - then you need to visit the forum and have a browse through some of the threads there.

Second, it would appear that a good chunk of the loyal staff are doing their utmost to sit out this crisis and be available if things suddenly come good. A few have already succumbed to the financial pressures of their bank balance, and are sad that they can’t be here. Most appear to be sitting it out, taking whatever work they can (building work seems to be a popular retreat) in order to make ends meet.

Now to the real meat. The latest rumours of a rescue deal all centre around Germany. Whether it is a German motor manufacturer or other such organisation remains unclear. A German link was mentioned briefly by an Arrows staffer some weeks ago, but now it has reappeared with a lot more names against it. Evidence of this stronger link is in the form of a general communication to team staff indicating that the ‘deal’ could be finalised as early as this week, with all staff receiving their unpaid wages. There would then be a further delay of a few weeks in order to settle any other creditors’ claims, after which the team could then get back to the business of preparing for 2003.

Several names have been mentioned: Audi - because of their tilt away from ALMS, and VW too - although they have already been heavily connected with Sauber. Others include Deutsche Post, amid rumours that they are not happy (for some reason) with current team Jordan.

Such is the strength of feeling behind this latest good news, it has moved one team member to voice strong words on the impact it may have. “This ‘deal’ is the closest we have had at this stage, and it’s a b****y good one for the future of the team, to finally move forward and unleash the potential of the team and the talented staff with the proper financial support we have longed for,” said one team staffer on this site’s forum. The post closes with, “Keep strong and may the faith be with you all.”

See you all on the grid in 2003 then? This site thinks it WILL happen – it’s just a question of when.
