Jackie Oliver critical of Arrows’ Tom Walkinshaw
By Huw Alban December 6 2002
Frequent visitors to AllAboutArrows will have already noted that the majority of the blame points firmly in the direction of Arrows boss Tom Walkinshaw. Team co-founder, Jackie Oliver, was just as vocal when Autosport magazine caught up with him...

The team staff, who have been using the site forum to keep in touch, have made their views on the crisis at Arrows well known. Those views have been somewhat amplified by yesterday's letters of redundancy, and the overwhelming impression is that the staff feel let down by Walkinshaw. At a pep-talk just after Silverstone Tom made it clear to his staff that they would be paid, and that he would not forget them.

We now hear, via the Reuters news agency, that the letters of redundancy state that the team is unable to pay the staff because cleared funds have not yet been obtained. Despite this, the staff have no sympathy for Walkinshaw - a view echoed by Jackie.

Autosport managed to get some copy from the team's co-founder for this Thursday's issue, and in it Jackie expressed his sadness over what has happened. "If the team goes down, it's sad that the Arrows name will disappear," he said. "Arrows survived in F1 for a long time despite not gaining any real success. I ran it with prudence, always thinking of survival."

"Tom tried to make it successful. I kept it going for 22 years, he buried it in three."

Not really a lot to add, is there?
