With the start
of the second practice session at the Fuji circuit there was a rush of
drivers taking to the track with most drivers staying out to set an early
time. Fisichella set the first time with a 1m:24.053 but several other
drivers would go faster with Heidfeld fastest from Alonso, Kubica, Nico,
Sutil, Trulli, Glock, and Button. But with the rush of drivers setting times
it would be Bourdais that would go fastest, 1m:20.308, with a 1m:20.389, followed by Sutil and Webber.
Alonso was now fourth followed by Vettel and Piquet. Nico was now eighth,
1m:21.081, followed by Kazuki, 1m:21.113.
The
times would improve with Alonso now fastest with a 1m:19.951. With other
drivers improving Nico and Kazuki would drop to thirteenth and fourteenth.
Vettel was now in third but would improve to be second behind Alonso with a
1m:20.219. Only the two Ferrari's had yet to come out. Bourdais, 1m:20.308,
was fourth followed by Kubica, Webber, Sutil, and Button in eighth. But
Hamilton would move to the top of the times with a 1m:19.949. Kazuki had
returned to the pits as Raikkonen took to the track. Kovalainen was now
second with a 1m:19.867. Nico had also pitted. Massa was now also out on the
track as Hamilton pitted. Nico and Kazuki were down in sixteenth and
seventeenth.
Bourdais would improve with a 1m:19.842 to move into an excellent second.
After the rush early on in the session the track now only had a handful of
drivers out on it, with fifteen minutes of the session run. Raikkonen and
Massa were in fifth and sixth respectively. On his next lap Massa was up to
fourth with a 1m:19.874. Alonso was back out on the circuit. Massa was on a
quick lap and would finish with a 1m:19.535 to move ahead of Hamilton.
Vettel was also out on the circuit as Piquet improved to now be seventh,
1m:20.158. But in somewhat of a surprise Sutil would go fastest with a
1m:19.344. Piquet was now fourth with a lap of 1m:19.788.Both Nico and
Kazuki had returned to the track.
Now it was Trulli's turn to move to the top of the times with a 1m:18.863.
Both Nico and Kazuki were on quick laps but so weer several other drivers.
Kazuki was now second with a 1m:19.244. Nico was down in fifth, 1m:19.354,
while it would be Vettel who was now fastest with a 1m:18.761. The times
continued to fall as Trulli and Glock would both move ahead of Kazuki. Trulli was
second, 1m:18.863, and Glock third, 1m:18.989. Coulthard would put in a
quick lap moving up to fifth with a 1m:19.327. Nico was one of the drivers
who was using the softer tyre in this session. It would help him move up to
fourth with a 1m:19.184. Vettel pitted along with Nico and Kazuki shortly
after. Kazuki was on the harder tyre.
Hamilton
was down in ninth just behind eighth placed Massa. With an hour and four
minutes remaining the order was Vettel from Trulli, Glock, Nico, Kazuki,
Coulthard, Sutil, and Massa. But Bourdais would also show some pace moving
into fourth with a 1m:19.081. Slowest were the Honda's of Barrichello and
Button. Hamilton was able to improve moving into second with a 1m:18.763. Vettel was
back out as Kovalainen moved into fourth with a 1m:18.914. Glock was fifth,
1m:18.989. Nico had returned to the track with just over an hour remaining.
Kazuki was also back out as Glock went fastest, 1m:18.383, to push Vettel
into second. Hamilton was now third followed by Trulli, and now Raikkonen in
fifth. Kovalainen was now sixth. Kazuki was able to improve to be in
seventh, 1m:18.930, while Nico was ninth with a 1m:19.139.
Glock's time was set on the softer option tyre. Massa was down in tenth with
a best time of 1m:19.205. Kubica was able to find some extra pace and would
move into fifth with a time of 1m:18.865. Kazuki had pitted. Kubica was also
on the softer tyre. Several other drivers were trying the softer tyre,
including Vettel. Glock was still fastest from Vettel, Hamilton, Trulli,
Kubica, Raikkonen, Kovalainen, Kazuki, Massa, and in tenth Bourdais, Nico was now eleventh.
Both Vettel and Hamilton would pit. Kazuki ands Nico would return to the
track with Kazuki currently in eighth and Nico eleventh. Most of the top ten
were back in their pits with the exception of fifth placed Kubica and eighth
placed Kazuki.
But Hamilton would return this time using the softer option tyre. With just
under forty minutes left in the session most of the field had returned with
the exception of the two Ferrari's. Hamilton would improve to now be in
second with a 1m:18.463. Kazuki was still in eighth and Nico eleventh. Both
drivers would pit. There was not a lot happening in terms of changes in
position but sixth placed Raikkonen was on a quick lap and would move into third with a 1m:18.752.
Both Kazuki and Nico were back out with just over thirty minutes remaining.
Massa was back out this time on the softer tyre. Massa would improve to be
in third with a 1m:18.617. Kazuki had dropped to ninth as a result of
Massa's time.
Kazuki
was on the softer tyre for this run. Both McLaren's were back in the pits.
Two teams down the order were Renault and Red Bull. Glock would pit after a
very long time out on the track. Raikkonen would also pit while Massa was on
a quick lap being fastest in sector one. But he would abort the lap
returning to his pit instead of setting a time. Both Nico and Kazuki had
also pitted without any improvement in third positions. But Massa would not
stop simply travelling along the pit lane to stop and practice a start prior
to returning to the track. Hamilton was also back out on the softer tyre.
Glock would also return to the track after a short stop.
Ten minutes left and Glock was still fastest from Hamilton, Massa,
Raikkonen, Vettel, Trulli, Kubica, Kovalainen, Kazuki, and Bourdais in
tenth. Again Glock would pit while Alonso was able to improve moving into
second, 1m:18.426. Piquet was also able to improve moving up to be in tenth,
1m:18.888. Webber was also faster with a 1m:18.734 which saw him in fifth.
Both Ferrari's were back out along with Nico as the final six minutes
counted down. Kazuki and Nico were currently in twelfth and fourteenth. The
final five minutes and most of the field were back out, including Kazuki.
Glock remained in the pits while Webber also came in. With three minutes
left Glock was back out as Raikkonen was on a quick lap. Kazuki had improved
to now be in seventh, 1m:18.734. Nico was down in thirteenth. Raikkonen's
lap would not see him improve remaining in fifth, 1m:18.725.
With the end of the session Glock would remain fastest from Alonso,
Hamilton, Massa, Raikkonen, Webber, Kazuki, Vettel, Kovalainen, and in tenth
Trulli. Nico was still thirteenth. Again Kazuki was able to get the better
of team-mate Nico but this time there was a large gap between the pair. But
the grid was certainly competitive with just 0.9 separating first from seventeenth. |
