The session would see the quickest time been set on the softer tyre while Nico's time in the earlier session was on the harder tyre. Raikkonen was fastest.

 Malaysian GP Friday 2nd Practice

After their encouraging opening practice for the 2009 Malaysian Grand Prix the AT&T Williams team would see its drivers finish the day in fourth and eighth positions, with Nico Rosberg leading team-mate Kazuki Nakajima. The drivers would tae to the track very early with clouds building up over the circuit.

NakajimaAt the front it would be the Ferrari's of Raikkonen and Massa who would led the times. Raikkonen would set the fastest time so far with a 1m:35.707. This time was set on the softer of the available Bridgestone tyres. Nico Rosberg's previous time set in the earlier session was set on the hard tyre, which was been used for the first time.

Sebastian Vettel would finish in third, followed by Nico in fourth for Williams. Nico and Kazuki would both have a time during the session where he was fastest. Roughly half way through the session Kazuki would set a time of 1m:36.34, to go fastest. Nico would be fifth fastest but in the final minutes would improve to fourth.

Later in the session Massa would set a time of 1m:35.832 to go fastest. But he was beaten by team-mate Raikkonen with a 1m:35.706. Fifth was Webber from Barrichello and Button. Kazuki would finish in eighth ahead of Piquet. Several drivers would have spins or leave the track none more so than  Fisichella who damaged his car against the barrier at Turn 10.

The performance of the Williams drivers must again be encouraging for the team especially after their strong performance in Australia.

After the end of the session it was confirmed that Barrichello would be given a five-place grid penalty for Sunday's race after needing a gearbox change following Friday's practice. This penalty is due to the rule that states that gearboxes must last for four grand prix weekends.
