Prior to the start of the 2009 Formula One season there was various comments regarding Nico Rosberg's future with the AT&T Williams team beyond the end of the 2009 season. Rumours have already started that have Rosberg in discussions with other teams for a possible drive in 2010.

Rosberg made it clear that 2009 would be the year that would either convince him to stay at Williams or look elsewhere for another drive in 2010. 2009 was going to be a crucial year in the career of Rosberg. He has always spoken of his desire to drive a car that would give him the opportunity to win races.

RosbergAfter a string of not so encouraging results in the opening races of the 2009 season Rosberg has again spoken of his options for the future options. Despite having a car that has shown some encouraging performances Rosberg has only being able to come away with 4.5 points in the first five races.

In an interview for autosport.com Rosberg spoke of his options for the future. Nico said: "I'm looking at it now. I'm trying to build an image in my head about what possibilities are for next year."

As for his relationship with the Williams team Nico added: "That fact is I feel really good in this team. They support me, and we've grown together, so it's a nice feeling here. So it would be nice if I could stay, to develop the car together that would be great."

He added: "It would be great to have one (race-winning car) now, but in F1 there's only two teams that have race-winning machines if anything.

"So you just need to be patient. If you deserve it sooner or later it will come and next year is going to be an important stop for my career.

"I would like to find something which is a good, long-term solution. It's important to get it right.

As for how things stand with the Williams team Nico was encouraged by his performances at the recent Spanish Grand Prix..

Nico said: "It's very encouraging that we are in this position at this track, because it means that we can definitely compete in terms of development with the other teams and we have a chance to stay where we are or maybe a little bit better for once. So it's okay."

"It's a good platform. They have done a good job with the development to put us in this position again, so it's okay. "Over the winter they have shown they can build a good car. They've developed well through the first few races. So we'll see."

Rosberg has got a race winning car its just that he is not good enough. Webber is 2 tenths quicker than Rosberg and Vettel is 3 tenths quicker than webber so Vettel ( and Alonso and Hamilton ?) would be able to get a full half second more out of the Williams car. This would make this years car easily capable of winning races.

Williams need a driver who can do qualifying laps for an entire race. Rosberg has been beaten in every race by drivers in non double-diff cars ie. slower cars, and he is only 2 tenths faster than the pitiful nakajima. Alonso or Vettel would blow Naka away by at least half a second.
