Monaco Practice One: Nakajima & Rosberg sixth and seventh

The opening Thursday practice session for the 2009 Monaco GP would see the AT&T Williams drivers finish in sixth and seventh. Kazuki Nakajima would finish ahead of team-mate Nico Rosberg. Kazuki would set his best time late in the sesssion while Nico was near the front for most of the sesssion. It was a positive start for the team after being questione dover their low fuel runs in practice.
 
 Monaco GP Thursday 1st Practice
 

On a sunny day the first of the Thursday practice sessions for the 2009 Monaco Grand Prix would get underway with Bridgestone bringing its two softest tyre compounds to this race. The field would complete their installation lap and it would be Heidfeld who would come back out first to start his first timed lap. He was running on the harder tyre. The early pace setter was Buemi from
Glock and Trulli. The times would start to fall as Glock went fastest with a 1m:20.548. Raikkonen was down in fifth. With thirty minutes completed Glock was fastest from Massa, Buemi, Trulli, Raikkonen, and Bourdais.

RosbergButton would take to the track for the first time moving up to seventh with a 1m:21.727. Massa would continue to improve with a 1m:19.669. Hamilton was now out on the track and would move up to third but Alonso would move ahead of him with a 1m:19.154. Hamilton would move to the top of the times with a 1m:18.376. With over forty minutes of the session run Nico would move into third with a 1m:19.089. He would improve to be second with a 1m:18.399. Hamilton would improve with a 1m:17.578. Hamilton was fastest from Barrichello, Nico, and Alonso. Webber was able to improve to move up to second with a 1m:18.348, but Nico would push Webber down to third as Nico set the second fastest time with a 1m:18.187. Button would improve with a 1m:18.354 to now be fourth.

With thirty five minutes of the session remaining Nico was in second with a 1m:18.187 and Kazuki in seventh, 1m:19.031. Fastest was Hamilton with a 1m:17.578. Behind Nico was Webber followed by Button, Barrichello, Kovalainen, Alonso, Massa and Kazuki now in ninth. Neither of the BMW's had set a time. The top four were all out n the track while Kovalainen would run wide at St Devote. Most of the field was back out on the track as the final thirty minutes started.

Massa would improve to be second, 1m:18.105, and Nico now third. Only Trulli was in the pits with the track now very busy. Vettel would suffer what appeared to be an engine failure as he made it back to the pits with smoke coming from the back of his car. Barrichello was now fastest with a 1m:17.505. Massa would push Hamilton down to third as he went second fastest with a 1m:17.499. Webber would complain with a vibration in the rear of his car. He would pit along with Nico while tenth placed Kazuki continued to put in laps on this demanding circuit. Raikkonen was now sixth with a 1m:18.299.

Alonso was up to fifth, 1m:18.299. Nico's time remained a 1m:18.187. Raikkonen would improve with a 1m:17.918 to now be fourth. With eighteen minutes left in the session only Raikkonen was on the track. He would it leaving the track empty. Kubica would say his car was bad in just about every department, especially in the rear. Barrichello was back out followed shortly after by team-mate Button. Trulli was on the track currently in eighteenth. Nico would come back out along with Hamilton. Kovalainen was out on the softer tyre with just under ten minutes remaining. Kazuki was still in his pit. Nico was now fifth as Kazuki came back out. Kazuki was in ninth. There were only a handful of drivers in the pits, including both Red Bull cars.

Buemi would move up to eleventh, 1m:19.197. Nico would drop to sixth as Kovalainen improve with a 1m:18.056 to be fifth. Button was in seventh. As the final minutes counted down Kazuki would set a quick time moving up to fifth, 1m:18.000. Nico would drop to seventh. Barrichello would have to use the run off at St Devote. Kazuki's time was set on the harder tyre. Barrichello would make a quick stop at his pit as Nico pitted. Nico had improved his time with a 1m:18.024. The session would come to an end with the Williams drivers in sixth and seventh with Kazuki, 1m:18.000, leading Nico, 1m:18.024. Massa would improve on his time with a 1m:17.499.
