Second placed Trulli was back out Glock would improve with a 1m:29.668 to now be sixth. Kazuki and Nico had both improved to now be in eleventh and twelfth respectively. Vettel would finally take to the track joined by Webber.

Vettel would split the two Williams with a 1m:29.902. But Kovalainen was now fastest with a 1m:28.841, while Kazuki would pit from second. Nico was now fourth while Kubica moved up to fifth. For Vettel his session would end as he stopped on the track. His car would be pushed off the track having completed just four laps. Nico had now pitted as replays showed Vettel complaining about a vibration from the drive shafts. With fifty five minutes remaining the order was Kovalainen from Kazuki, Vettel, Nico, Kubica, Hamilton, Trulli, Raikkonen, Alonso, and Webber in tenth.

Hamilton would spin coming out of Turn one. He was running on the softer tyre at the time and as he came through the corner the car simply swapped ends. Hamilton was able to spin the car and continue. Kazuki was back out on the track joined by Nico. Kovalainen was back out while the Ferrari's were in ninth and fourteenth, with Raikkonen ahead of Massa. Piquet was now sixth with a 1m:29.401. Kubica would improve with a 1m:29.056 to now be second. Hamilton would spin again at Turn nine and ten. He again would lose the rear end. Kubica would pit joining Kazuki. Kazuki was now third and Nico fifth. Nico would return to the track. Alonso was now second, 1m:29.042, while at the back of the grid it would be the Torro Rosso cars who were slowest.

Thirty eight minutes remaining and Kazuki was now fourth and Nico sixth. Nico had completed twenty six laps. Barrichello and Button were down in fifteenth and sixteenth. More drivers were coming out running with the softer tyre. Third placed Kubica had returned to the track. Raikkonen was on the softer tyre. Kazuki would return to the track while Raikkonen would struggle to set a quicker time on the softer tyre than he had on the hard. Massa was back out on the softer tyre. Thirty minutes remaining and Nico was back out on the track joining Kazuki. Kazuki would have a quick spin at Turn one but was able to continue. The majority of the field was out on the track with more drivers using the softer tyre. Button was running on the softer tyre trying to improve from sixteenth.

Barrichello was now thirteenth while Massa improved to be tenth. Trulli would move up to sixth pushing Nico down to seventh. Nico had returned to his pit having completed thirty one laps. Eleventh placed Hamilton was on an improved lap but remained in eleventh. He lost time in the later part of the lap. Fifteen minutes left in the session Massa, running on the softer tyre, was suffering from graining. Kazuki had pitted having completed thirty one laps. The order was Kovalainen from Alonso, Kubica, Kazuki, Vettel, Trulli, Nico, Webber, Piquet, and Massa in tenth. Ten minutes left and Nico was back out along with the majority of the field. Nico was running on the softer tyre and like many other drivers failing to improve on his times.

Alonso running on the softer tyre was on a quick lap going fastest in sector one. But he would fail to improve remaining second. Drivers continued to run wide including Hamilton. Hamilton would pit while Kazuki would spin again after having a coming together with a Force India car going through the final corners. Barrichello was now eighth, 1m:29.305. As the final minutes counted down everyone except Vettel was out on the track. The session would come to an end with Kovalainen still fastest from Alonso, Kubica, Kazuki, Vettel, Trulli, Nico, Barrichello, Webber, and Piquet in tenth. The drivers weer allowed to do practice starts from the grid prior to returning to the pits.

Another encouraging session for the Williams team with both drivers in the top ten and within in the case of Nico four tenths of the quickest time. The biggest problem for all the teams was running on the softer tyre with most drivers struggling to set quicker times on the option tyre.
