Monaco GP: FP2 sees little improvement for Williams Martini

The results of the second Thursday practice session for the 2016 Monaco GP would see the Williams Martini produce 14th and 16th positions on the time sheets. Valtteri Bottas would finish in 14th and Felipe Massa 16th. Both drivers would set their quickest times on the ultrasoft tyre and then would focus on longer runs on this tyre as well as the superosft. The Williams team would say that the day was one of preparing for the race and that perormance runs will come on Saturday. Having said that both drivers are still a considerable margin behind the times of the drivers at the front.

Martini Monaco GP Thursday 2nd Practice
Team Summary:
As the drivers came out with the start of the second period of Thursday
practice would see a mix of tyre types being used. The first time was a
1m:18.459 from Gutierrez. He would improve with a 1m:17.102 running on the
ultrasoft tyre. After his first timed lap Valtteri would move into fourth
while Felipe was waiting on his car to have the repairs completed. Rosberg
would go quickest with a 1m:16.694 set on the supersoft tyre. Valtteri would
drop down to eighth as others went quicker. Hamilton would go quickest with
a 1m:15.489 running on the supersoft tyre with Sainz second. Rosberg was now
third with Hulkenberg fourth.
Kvyat was now fourth running on the soft tyre with Alonso fifth. On the
ultrasoft tyre Ricciardo would go quickest with a 1m:15.315, from Hamilton,
Sainz, and Verstappen. A 1m:15.015 from Ricciardo with twenty minutes of the
session completed. Haryanto would crash his car braking at the chicane
seeing his car hit the barrier. The Virtual Safety car would be used seeing
the majority of the field pitting. The track would be cleared and the
session restarted. Verstappen would move into third while Valtteri's first
ultrasoft tyre run would see him ninth. Felipe was down in seventeenth after
his first timed lap.
Kvyat and Sainz were fourth and fifth with just under an hour remaining.
Raikkonen would move up to sixth seeing Valtteri drop to tenth. Rosberg
would move up to third with a 1m:15.537 running on the ultrasoft tyre.
Hamilton was also out on the same tyre. With just under fifty minutes
remaining Valtteri and Felipe were down in thirteenth and fourteenth.
Ricciardo was back out on the ultrasoft tyre and would set a 1m:14.607 to
extend his margin at the top. Vettel would spin at Mirabeau and would hit
the barrier with his rear wing. As drivers worked on longer runs Magnussen
would crash into the barriers at the final corner.
Raikkonen and Vettel were seventh and ninth while for Williams Valtteri and
Felipe were fourteenth and sixteenth with fifteen minutes remaining. Both
Williams drivers would continue long runs on the supersoft tyre as the
session drew to a close. The session would end with both Williams drivers
still well down the times. But the team would say that today was all about
race setup and Saturday would be about performance.
Valtteri Bottas:
Valtteri would be first out for Williams running on new supersoft tyres.
Valtteri would get caught behind one of the Manor cars seeing him having to
slow to find space but again he would find himself stuck in traffic.
Valtteri would set a 1m:18.572 to be fourth dropping to eighth. Valtteri
would set a 1m:17.972 currently ninth. Valtteri would pit currently twelfth
having completed eight laps. Having dropped to fifteenth Valtteri would come
back out this time on the ultrasoft tyre. He would pit as a result of a
crash out on the circuit. He would return still on the ultrasoft tyre. He
would set a 1m:16.849 to be ninth. Valtteri would drop to eleventh as he
continued his run on the supersoft tyre. He would pit after eight laps. he
would drop to thirteenth having been in his pit for some time.
Valtteri would return to the track continuing his run on the ultrasoft tyre.
Thirty minutes remaining and Valtteri had completed fifteen laps on his
ultrasoft tyre. Having completed eighteen laps Valtteri would pit. He would
come back out this time on the used supersoft tyres. Valtteri was still out
having put twenty two laps on his supersoft tyre with five minutes
remaining. With the end of the session Valtteri would complete twenty six
laps on his supersoft tyre.
Felipe Massa:
Felipe would be seen walking around his car as his mechanics completed the
repair work on his car after crashing in the first Thursday practice. Twenty
minutes into the session and Felipe was yet to come out. Felipe would
finally come out running on the supersoft tyre. His first timed lap was a
1m:18.040 to be seventeenth. Felipe would improve with a 1m:17.898 still on
the supersoft tyre. He would pit currently fifteenth. He would change to the
ultrasoft tyre returning to the track. Felipe would set a 1m:17.286 to be
fourteenth. Felipe would pit having dropped to sixteenth. Felipe would
return and like Valtteri would continue his run on the ultrasoft tyre. Like
his team-mate Felipe was on a long run on the softer tyre. Felipe would pit
taking on the supersoft tyre matching his team-mate. Felipe would complete
eighteen laps on this set of tyres.
