After a very
difficult opening series of races with only four points scored the Williams
Martini team has had to cope with immense pressure to reverse this
situation. The main focus has been the issues with the performance of the
FW41 and questions have been raised as to whether the team can fix these
before the greater part of the 2018 season has been completed.
But technical
chief Paddy Lowe in an interview with Autosport.com spoke of how the
Williams team is still pushing ahead with addressing the issues with the
2018 car while still moving forward on the 2019m car.
In this interview Lowe spoke of how the team is pushing ahead with various
updates for the FW41. He also made it clear that many of these are yet to
appear simply as it takes time for the parts to be designed, tested and then
fitted onto the car.
Lowe said: "We're already working on next year in parallel, but we
absolutely haven't given up on this year.
"We are doing a lot of work back at base, some very significant work, it's
just not yet appeared on the car.
"The season is still early, and we're absolutely not giving up on it.
"Some things we've been chipping away at and there are other things that are
more major, that take a long time.
"We're not naming dates, but we hope to make some good progress before the
shutdown."
As for the recent departures of some key Williams staff Lowe added that the
team has coped with these having moved responsibilities among the existing
staff.
Lowe added: "We're really in good shape, we've got a good team together at
the moment."
"We've got the main ingredients that we need to work on this year's car, and
design next year's car.
"We will continue to build and reinforce, but we're not lacking in the right
effort in the right areas at the moment."
