Williams Drivers: Ricardo Patrese
Ricardo Patrese was born on the 17 April 1954. His first drive in a Formula One car was in 1977 for the Shadow team.

Ricardo Patrese joined the Williams team in 1988 as partner to Nigel Mansell. Ricardo had driven for various teams including Brabham. This season was to prove difficult for Ricardo as he and Mansell were left with using Judd V8 engines after the departure of Honda from the team.

Ricardo was to stay with the Williams team for another four seasons, partnered by Thierry Boutsen, in 1989 and 1990, and Nigel Mansell in 1991 and 1992. These seasons marked the beginning of the teams long-term relationship with Renault. Ricardo was able to score four victories for the Williams team.

Ricardo's victories were in the 1990 San Marino Grand Prix, Mexican and Portuguese Grand Prixs in 1991, and in the Japanese Grand Prix in 1992.

Ricardo Patrese
Ricardo played a successful role as the number two driver in the Williams team to both Boutsen and Mansell but never rose to the level to bring him the position of lead driver.

Ricardo was a driver for which I had a great deal of admiration. He was able to survive in the demanding world of Formula one for such a long period, achieving only a limited degree of success. But he certainly was recognised for his talent as a Grand Prix driver who was capable of regularly scoring points for his team.
