RBR: Spain Quali Views
By Ian Lockwood April 26 2008
Views from the Red Bull Racing camp on todays qualification session for the Spanish Grand Prix. Mark Webber recovered from an engine related problem that stopped him running during during free practice 3 to finish seventh, whilst team mate Coulthard languishes down in 17th after traffic left him unable to warm his tyres suffciently for his final flying lap.

Car 10 MARK WEBBER, Position 7th

"We knew it was going to be very tight here, and that's turned out to be the case. Barcelona's a track that the team's know well, but we've put ourselves in a good position for the first stint of tomorrow's race and hopefully from there we can lay the foundations to get some good points. We had a problem this morning, which we recovered from well and hopefully we can keep our points run going tomorrow."

Car 9 DAVID COULTHARD, Position 17th

"I'm shocked about that. I dropped some time in Turn 12, but the problem occurred at the start of the lap. I went out in a bunch of traffic and had Sutil behind me, so I couldn't back off, which compromised warming up the tyres. We believed we were fast enough to go through the first session only using prime tyres, which take longer to warm up than the options. Under normal conditions, if you put in a hard out lap, then using primes like that shouldn't be a problem, but unfortunately it didn't work out for us today. After this morning, I thought we were looking good for making it into Q3, we took a risk and it didn't work."

CHRISTIAN HORNER:

"It was a great recovery from Mark today, seeing as he didn't do a single timed lap in this morning's practice session. He got through the first session on only the prime tyres, progressed into Q3 and did a good job there. After a promising first run, David unfortunately dropped a little bit of time in the third sector, which was the difference between Q1 and Q2 today, so it's going to be a busy afternoon for him tomorrow."

FABRICE LOM, Renault, Principal Engineer, Track Support:

"Firstly we apologise for Mark's engine problem this morning, that's not the service we want to be providing. Fortunately it didn't affect him too much for the qualifying and we're very pleased with his seventh place. For David, unfortunately he missed out on Q2, but hopefully he can make up some places tomorrow."

Webber nails his quali 3 lap with a very good smooth lap and finds himself in 7th.

Massa completely fluffs his quali 3 lap with mistakes and he finds himself in 3rd.

Its just not fair :-(
