Red Bull Racing: Paul Ricard Test - Day 2
By Ian Lockwood May 15 2008
Today it was David Coulthard’s turn to sample the delights of the short version of the Le Castellet track, as Red Bull Racing continues its preparation for rounds six and seven of the Formula One World Championship, in Monaco and Montreal.

David  ended  up  fourth  fastest  today,  despite being slightly  delayed  by  a  couple  of  technical problems  and  some  rain  showers around lunchtime.

The programme included testing some new aerodynamic components as well as trying different mechanical set ups, using some new items on the car. Overall, the team is reasonably confident that it heads for Monaco in good shape after these past two days testing.

Tomorrow,  its  time  to  rip  the  wings  off  RB4  and  set  off  for  some  low downforce work on a version of the Ricard track that features long Montreal- style straights. Sebastien Buemi is on driving duty.

Another new thing I saw, different front wheel covers. They cover almost the whole wheel now:

Good spot mate! Any other pics you have seen highlighting any changes?

Another, there are tiny blades present just above the front wishbones that weren't there in Turkey or before:

And also the new front wing bridge that we saw yesterday.

Thanks mate, I like the fact that most of our changes are subtle and not a fundamental change in direction. Hopefully this shows that Newey's RB4 was a solid initial concept providing a good development platform for the year ahead. Thanks for the pics!

Yeah, it seems like as a base, it is a very good car, we need to develop it well, and that seems to be happening, fingers crossed. On to low downforce today for Montreal prep!

This is what I was saying last week before Turkey - we now have a solid base. The team can now focus on speed and I am very happy with the speed of new parts coming for the car. I am not saying we will catch the top 3 but I think we can draw further away from the middle pack (Renault may come with us). I also think we are closing the gap on the top 3. I have been watching the gaps in quali and race times etc and we certainly are closer than we use to be.
