Barcelona Day 1: Ferrari Leads The Pack.
By Sam Cooper June 12 2008
The Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula One team have completed the first day of testing at this weeks three day test at Barcelona in eastern Spain. Test driver Gary Paffett took charge of McLaren’s testing duties, setting 5th best time and completing thirty six laps in the MP4-23.

After a mixed Canadian Grand Prix, the Scuderia Ferrari team are back on top during the first days testing at the Circuit de Catalunya. The official test driver Luca Badoer set the fastest lap of the day in the F2008, two tenths of a second faster than next best driver Robert Kubica.

Kubica, fresh from his maiden win in Canada, managed to set the second fastest time of the day in the F1.08, setting his best time of 01:22.682 whilst completing 69 laps of the 4.655km circuit. In third and fourth was the Red Bull duo of David Coulthard and Sebastian Buemi, the two completing their best laps within four hundredths of a second of each other.

McLaren’s Gary Paffett had a less fortunate day of testing, his morning session was halted prematurely by a gearbox leak. Things didn’t get any better for Gary in the afternoon, a minor front wing problem halted the afternoon session. Things turned from bad to worse for Paffett; with an hour to go the track was hit by a rains shower.
