The roars of the Brazilian crowd reached fever pitch this afternoon as they cheered home grown hero Massa home to pole position. 

To add to the crowd’s delirium Hamilton came over to finish line to take only fourth on the grid, as Toyota’s Jarno Trulli claimed a surprising second with Kimi Raikkonen just behind him in third. 

Rob Smeadley, Massa’s race engineer, claims that the Brazilian is not running light on fuel, even though the Ferrari’s pole winning lap was nearly half a second quicker than Hamilton’s.  

Lewis only needs to finish in fifth, but he does start right in the thick of things with the potential to get involved in some incidents, especially off the start line. 

Light fuel loads probably came heavily in to play for Toyota though, even with Trulli’s fantastic ability in qualifying. 

Heikki Kovalainen is in a good position to help protect his team mate from possible trouble from behind them on the grid as he qualified in fifth. He finished Q3 0.1 seconds slower than Hamilton. 

Fernando Alonso will line up behind the McLaren in sixth. Yet again Sebastian Vettel punched above his weight in the Toro Rosso and he will start the Brazilian Grand Prix in seventh. 

Toro Rosso had a very successful day. Sebastian Bourdais also made it through to Q3 and completed the session in ninth. 

Nick Heidfeld splits the Toro Rosso pair in his BMW. He was the only driver of the team to make it to Q3. Kubica failed to make it beyond Q2 and starts in 13^th. 

Timo Glock rounded off a good day for Toyota by completing the top ten. 

Piquet just missed out on Q3 and starts in eleventh. Yet again Red Bull Racing could not out qualify their sister team Toro Rosso. Webber ended the day in twelfth and David Coulthard completed his final ever qualifying session in fourteenth.  

The Williams team did not have a good day at all. Neither driver went any further than Q1 today. Nakajima did slightly better than team mate Rosberg and they line up 16^th and 18^th respectively.
