For years now, Formula one teams have been concerned with saving weight, and therefore having more ballast to place at the optimum point in the car- making the car go faster.
Though in 2009, teams that choose to run the Kenetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) will have to sacrifice some of that advantage when they add in the devices into the car- as it is estimated that KERS will weigh around 40Kg- just under 2/3's of a drivers body weight.
Hamilton and Kovalainen- weighing 68 and 66Kg respecively, are likely to benifit from this, as compared to drivers like Mark Webber, the team will be able to add in 2-4 kg more than the Red Bull team, giving them a slight advantage.
McLaren are expected to race their own version of KERS, with their being a possibility of them running 2 differnt chassis, one based around KERS, the other not.
