gearbox issues in qualifying.
The dramatic race certainly helped lift McLaren's spirit up as they bettered their expectations.
The chaotic race started with Rubens almost staling and causing a chain of events on the first corner, Hekki's race ended when he went wheel to wheel with Mark Webber. An unfortunate result as the car had a surprisingly good race pace.
Hamilton proved his worth today with his amazing overtaking abilities, the same cannot be said about Robert Kubica's move on Vettel, or Vettel's move on Kubica, its a tough call there who was to blame, but to the brief delight of Toyota fans the two collided with 3 laps to go giving Jarno Trulli the final podium spot. The stewards latter decided that Jarno had overtaken Hamilton under the safety car and awarded him a 25 second penalty. Hamilton moves up to third making it a Mercedes 1, 2 & 3.
Finally McLaren managed to be the best KERS team in Australia, even though its well off the pace of new front running teams, the team has the reliability it needs to take advantage on the rivals.
The new season is shaping up to be a lot of fun, and quite random. Malaysia will tell if this is the way things will continue, and it will also be the proving ground for the teams to see where they really stand.
