Winning Week for Jenson
By Karl King
December 12 2009
It's been a busy week for newly signed McLaren driver Jenson Button as the Briton travelled the world to add to the silverware he collected in his amazing championship winning season. The frivolities began on Sunday night at the annual AUTOSPORT Awards where Button picked up both the British Competition Driver and International Racing Driver of the Year Awards.

Jenson then received more acolades from the British Racing Drivers Club at their Annual Awards on Monday. The world champ had the Richard Seaman trophy presented to him by British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown.

Brown told Jenson, "the whole country is proud of you," and added "you are a brilliant ambassador for British sport."

The Awards ceremony came on the same day as it was announced that Silverstone would take over the rights to the British GP for the next 17 years after the downfall of Donington Park. This will surely come as welcome news to McLaren as it enters next year with an all-English line-up.

On Friday Jenson was officially crowned World Champion as he was presented with his trophy at the FIA Gala Prize-Giving in Monaco and will now travel to the somewhat less glamorous destination of Sheffield for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year event. Jenson is the bookies favourite to round out his year with one more piece of silverware by winning SPOTY tomorrow.

The event is televised live on BBC One at 1900 Sunday evening where the telephone numbers to vote for Button will be listed.
